Default Beautiful day for a ride! Just don't get caught speeding in Norway!

    I should have stayed home!
Was out enjoying my RTS and the twisty roads, weather was perfect, warm and sunny!
Thought I would swing by a "Bikes, cars, and coffee" event that is held at a nice little diner every Wednesday during the riding season.
With just 10 minutes left of riding, I get waved to park at a bus stop by a cop.
Turned out they shot me with a laser doing 58 km in a 50 zone. I humbly admitted to going over, and knew I was getting fined.

Message to all: Do not get caught speeding in Norway!!

My little amount of "speeding" cost me $294 USD

Now I will pour me a Martini and pout for a lil while!

Yes, that will happen. The Bikes, Cars, and Coffee event was probably why you encountered the police. They knew they would find some ticketbait.

Here, in AR, USA, 5 over the posted limit will get their attention, but 10 or more is usually where tickets are issued at the discretion of the officer.

In the back of my head I knew they probably was out somewhere looking for targets going to the event.
In todays paper I read that 48 people got pulled over and fined in traffic control yesterday, so I was not alone. Next event I will pay more attention to the speed for sure.

Maybe a radar detector would benefit you. A while back I thought about one. Are they legal in Norway?

I would have to investigate a bit to find out!
Do they detect the laser-guns that the cops use?

Many of the higher end radar detectors are very good at front and rear or even to the side radar signal detection. Not so good at laser. At best you would hope to detect laser beam scatter off a vehicle in front of you giving you time to slow down. The problem with laser is the reading at the gun is done very quickly, less than a second, leaving no reaction time if it was aimed at you. There are some expensive countermeasures you can run but I think they are strictly illegal in most of Europe.

    Thank you for info ED!
Think I will just drop the idea and be more aware when driving, especially in 50km and lower zones.

I've always heard that for laser, by the time the detector detects it, you've been detected. Same for your eyes and radar, if you see them, they've probably already clocked you. I find it best to just watch the brake lights in front of me... a group of cars all braking should always cause you to slow down, even if it doesn't end up being police. Not that I ever speed, of course.
