It seems to me that today's younger generation really has no idea what D-Day was, the reasons behind it, or even who the combatants were in WW2. Either these kids were asleep during history class, or more likely, are not even taught anything about WW2 or the many brave men and women who sacrificed so much to bring freedom to so many. To me, this a big black mark on education in this country today. My dad was a ball turret gunner on a B-17 in '42 & '43. He, like so many others, put his life on the line on every one of his 25 missions over continental Europe. It was a heavy burden for them all, but thanks to them, we as a nation have freedoms that would not have been possible if not for them. Please, all, take a moment today on this 79th anniversary to reflect on this history, and say a prayer for the departed.

Some people live an entire lifetime and wonder if they have ever made a difference in the world, but the veterans don’t have that problem. Brave men each and every one.
As far as the younger generations not knowing about D Day, unfortunately the world has become so self centered that history becomes just what it is in the minds of many. Just history.
The only time history becomes current day news is when we are tearing it down because some people are offended by it. Sad.

We were once the clueless, self-centered younger generation.
Thanks to veterans, regardless of generation.

Thank you GKamer for reminding us about D-Day. Thank you to all our veterans who have continued to protect us and our freedoms. My father was not there, he was in the Pacific on his ship.

My dad was a British soldier in North Africa, Cyprus, Italy, Afghanistan and Pakistan. There were many aspects of that war, leading finally to the liberation of Europe.

It's important to remember the significant anniversaries, to commemorate and remember. From our history the various arms of service gain the character that attracts those of today's youth who choose service.
It's essential to keep in our thoughts those who serve TODAY. Those young men and women who go where we, perhaps, would not, to do what we, perhaps, could not, and they do this for us.
