Hey BRP, are you listening? Sticky RT latches fix
So, after constantly fighting with the sticky saddlebag latches on my 2021 RT S2S, I decided to investigate further. BRP says they are replacing the cables with stainless steel cables to fix the problem. Well, the cables are not the problem. My one year old latches are covered in corrosion and the mechanism itself was sticking. The cables were working fine. I removed the latches, cleaned with brake cleaner and a brush to remove as much corrosion as I could. Added a coat of paint to help preserve the latches as long as possible and lubed them with white lithium grease. They work better than new now. BRP needs to make these latches out of stainless or at least zinc coated metal. Those darn stainless cables aren't going to fix a thing.

Those latches look like butt! That's crazy after only one year. Especially up high where they are located and behind the body panels.

Exactly what I was thinking! They look like they came from a bike several years old and exposed regularly to road salt.

I was surprised by the poor condition also. It is amazing how much road grime makes it up where the latches are. As far as making them keyless, I am working on that. Seems like enough room for the solonoid, but if the latches become corroded any more, the solenoid might not be strong enough to open them.

Joel, you should send those pictures to BRPCare and ask them how much money per unit they saved by making them out of that crap metal.
