It could have gone faster, but it ran out of extension cord.

EVs are the only thing HD is making now. They shut down production of their gas bikes because of a concern about the quality of a vendor's part. Something to do with emissions. The reports have been real vague..... Jim

But surely this has gotta be the first time since then that they've shut down the production of all their ICE motorcycles, leaving the EV's being the only bikes they're making....

Back in the '60s when full-size new cars were still around $3,500, someone developed an electric car that went from New York to LA on only $35 worth of electricity.
But the extension cord cost over $10,000!

Yeah, but the rider can't pull in the clutch and roll on the throttle to announce to the world at large that a Harley is coming through. Kinda takes the fun out of it.

The Livewire and several other electric motorcycles have made coast to coast trips. Charging every 125 miles is not for me. Battery evolution has a ways to go.

I agree. But, I'll bet most Harley trips are within the Livewire range.

I have to put in my 2 cents worth..... As a member of SEMA for over 50 years I have see just about everything
that is all new and supposedly improved in the automotive world, that also includes motorcycles....
For the most part they are kinda cool all except.... our power grid can not support all the electric vehicles, homes, business, industries,
that now and in the future require electric power. there needs to be a massive push to build many many more power producing plants
Dams for hydro elect power, AND nuclear power plants. I live in the country away from all shopping, when I was working at Tracy Army Depot
my round trip was just at 100 miles round trip... the cars of the time could not go that far, true they are better today but not even close enough for me to even consider buying one. They are not as GREEN as some think, the mining for raw materials for the battery's is very dirty and very costly and dangerous. When I drive my good ole gas car to southern CA. to visit grand kids on hwy 99 or hwy 5 going south I see many many electric cars even the high dollar ones DEAD in the side of the road because they can't make it from San Francisco to Las Angeles on one charge, they have to find a charging station and pay for the power just like gas and it takes much much more time to charge than it does to fill up with gas, go to the barhroom, grab a snack and get back into the car and leave.... all this while the super nice electric cars sit and wait for their turn at the electric pump...
Harley bought out ZERO elect. motorcycles years ago I think that is where they got some of their information for building them.
Only my opinion but I don't think the world will be ready for all electric cars trucks and more for many more years, I will be long dead by then.

This is my thought exactly. The Livewire is a very nice motorcycle not given the range limitations. The older Harley riders won't consider it for the most part, but that's ok because it was designed to entice younger riders into the motorcycle market.

Very true but I'm not sure I see your point. This thread was created because someone was surprised that Harley had developed an electric motorcycle. I was simply pointing out that it was brought to market 8 years ago.

It's not so good that it is not going to well for Harley sales of them, our local Harley dealer still has a first year model on the showroom for sale. Harley is doing quite well with their new duel sport/ adventure bike

You are correct Dave. Sales of the Livewire have been abysmal at best. I guess we can't really call it a failure since Harley hasn't stopped production, but they have certainly considered it.
It is kind of ironic that some of the moto mags are comparing Harley's new adventurer bike to BMW's new cruiser. Harley seems to be winning on that front. Crazy times!

With a $30K price tag, and limited range, the LiveWire has mostly been expensive showroom furniture. My local HD dealer had the 2020 LiveWires on the floor for more than two years, I guess someone must have bought two of them but all I know is two are still available.

I also think it is a stretch for the regular HD crowd too. It just isn't a 1940's HD.
Oh come on now, they are almost up to the 60's.

How far is it from one bar to the next.
Should be good for three at least.
