28k trans filter change - Do I need to drain the engine oil first??
On my 18 F3L. Do I need to drain the engine oil before changing it. Or is the oil level not that high. And if I do not need to change the oil, do you loose some oil when changing it.

I always drain the oil first. Much less messy! It holds some oil, and even after draining, some drains out. You could raise the right side on a ramp, and just do the filter, but, I’ve not tried it. I did replace a clutch on a VROD, leaning the bike over. That was because the owner did not bring oil! It worked, but it really is easier to drain, replace the filters, then refill. If you try, post up! Joe

Yes, like cptjam states, drain the engine oil first.

Yes I've had it less than 3 1/2 years. I ride between 8 and 9 k per season. I live in Wisconsin so it is put away for 4-5 months.
I guess I will order the filter and do it with the end of season oil change.

Ok. I'm going to do my oil change and Trans filter this weekend. Do I need to remove the right driver floorboard to get the Trans filter off. My floorboards are in the position #3.

If the F3 frame is the same as the RT the bottom screw is hard to get at. Get a set of small bits and a small ratchet from HF and you can get into that screw easily to get it out. Otherwise, it's B*^%H!

The tranny filter on an F3 is out there for all the world to see. Easy Peasy to access.
Ours is a red, black and chrome 2017 F3 Limited. Bought new in 2/2019. The avatar is my first bike back in 1952, a Simplex Servi-Cycle. Photo taken at the Barber Museum.
