Looking to run some wires for heated gear on my 2020 RT Limited from the battery back.
Any idea or suggestions on an easy or good place to run the wires?
On the 2015 RT Limited I removed all the panels, basically stripped it down to run the wires and hide them, I was wondering if there is a little easier way?
I ran from the battery up into the glove box. I won't be riding dual in the cold weather and I just leave the glove box unsnapped while using the 12v cord. Seemed easy to do for me I might at some point change it but it seems fine for Doug just the way it is. Not fancy but gets it done and I didn't have to pull any panels off. Just used a long plastic wire tie up under the panel and pulled it into the glove box.
I mounted mine lower on the left and the passenger one next to the heat switches. Both are run directly to the battery, which has the added benefit of being able to plug my battery maintainer into either one. Heated gear.jpg

I think my wife could break that plug off in short time, getting on or off the bike!!
That's very well done. Are SAE receptacles easily sourced?
Yes. A quick search will find them. I can't remember exactly where I got these from. They have a standard SAE disconnect plug on the other end of the cable (about 6-8 inches long). This allows me to unplug the passenger one whenever I need to remove the side panel by the grip.

Well it took me longer than it should have. Twin 3 year old grandsons were here for the weekend and needed my attention, and I was happy to give it.
Here are the end results
Thanks so much for all the input from everyone.
A shout out to Bajaron for steering me in the right direction diffe new wiring leads!
Just took delivery on 2020 limited. With the panel off to do oil change can you get wire from battery to area behind seat or mount the plug beside passenger grips?
I put a powerlet outlet on the handlebar bracket from lamonster (swapped out their lighter socket) and routed to the right side then to the battery. When cold weather comes to the NE, I'll plug my heated gear into the powerlet.
It's the same, the + cable is connected to battery and goes right to the back of the alternator.
Same voltage period...................
True.... except that back in the day (well, at least back when I was learning about all this sorta stuff ) we were all taught NEVER to connect anything directly to the Alternator because even if it's fused, there's still a risk of a big enough wiring or device failure taking out the Alternator as well!!
By connecting to the battery instead, the battery can act as a big fuse/an additional 'surge protector' for those 'less damaging' events and as a fail-safe 'protector of last resort' for any potentially more damaging events that might otherwise wipe out those more expensive and difficult to replace electrical components like the alternator.... And I'd guess that a heated jacket &/or trousers, gloves etc with lots of heated wires threaded thru them that have to withstand a heap of flexing & heat/cool cycles juuust might be prime contenders for causing one of those 'potentially more damaging events' in the event of anything ever breaking in all that threading!
So for my 2 bob's worth, I'd be leaving the alternator connections strictly alone & connecting my heated clothing wiring directly to the battery via an otherwise isolated fuse block or circuit breaker that's well up to the task. But as always, when it comes to what YOU might do, it's ultimately your choice...

I brought my power up and zip tied it to my handlebar. Look closely and you can see it peeking out on the left side. I also use it for my battery tender.

Another easy place to put the wire from the battery is on left side of an F3 under the removable "instruction" panel. If you haven't noticed, there is a space above that panel that you can pull the wire out for attaching to heating gear or charger. I used a fairly hard wire to snake from that panel down towards the battery to pull the charger wire up. When not in use, simply shove the wire back under and its out of sight.
I attach my Gerbing controller to the water bottle holder on the left side of handlebar which makes it easy to see/reach for controlling the heat.
