F4 Customs vs Madstad
In the infamous windshield debate of F4 Customs vs Madstad or other brands, I am currently leaning towards F4 Customs although I could prefer the adjustability of the Madstad. The reason I am leaning towards the F4 Customs is the availability of the Air Wings for the F4. Is there anything else from anyone else similar to the Air Wings that possibly could complement a windshield from another brand, including Madstad?
Thanks
J

I have this incredible combination. Totally changed my ride into one of the best fully ADJUSTABLE wind protection bikes I have owned.
When I say the the Madstad shield has wind and debris protection for my hands, others say that's not an important factor on a touring shield. It is a full 4" wider than the F4? Things might have changed in options for the F4 both for hand protection and air wings. But with my Baker wings closed and going down the interstate, my unzipped coat lays calmly at my side and doesn't move around at all.
Would some F4 owner please conduct this simple test. Go down the interstate at 80 mph, unzip your touring jacket and post if it lays calmly. I swear I have almost no movement where other touring bikes I have owned the zipper would have beat me to death at that speed.

Eighty Miles an hour down the freeway with no wind problems at all, clothing stays put, at sixty miles an hour i can wear a baseball cap if i want to.
Stick with the F4 windshield for the best performance and looks, I truly love the F4 adjustable vents and adjustable wings. The screen itself is very easy to maintain and is very solid.

The wings attached to the windshield (F4 Customs) do a much better job than the other wings attached underneath the mirrors. I have had both.

I have the F4, a tall one. Had the adjustable wings installed at bike week this year. They make a huge difference. Close the W/S vent then close the side vents. Little to no air movement. I look through my shield so the upper air goes well over my head. My wife complained about the buffering with the stock shield. She is very happy with the performance of the F4 as the buffering has stopped. With all the vents open they allow plenty of air to reach you. Tom

Do you guy think the vent is needed in the W/S if you are adding the air wings?

Not really. The wings bring in plenty of air. I have the vent because there were no wings when I bought it. If I was to buy one now I wouldn't get the vent.

It is nice to have both the vent and the wings for adjustability, however, the wings by themselves are superior. I also had the vent first and then added the wings and they make great wind protection in the winter also.

I ride a F3 Limited and the wings are great to give you the best air mamagement

Great to hear, JBIM. F4 would be my first choice for a windscreen except they don’t make one tall enough for my body height.

At your height. You would benefit from the F4 customs 28" tall and I think it's 4" or 5" wider. My friend has that one on his 15 RTS. Works great.

Yeah, but whatever you do, speak to Don at F4 (or at least look at their videos on selecting height), before you decide on a screen height. Even people of the same height can have vastly different height torsos.

I got the 21 inch and had some issues with turbulence. Had to open the vent to relieve it and at position three works well. Moved up to a 23 inch and less buffeting but still some. Will the air wings help with turbulence?

Unfortunately, turbulence is a relative thing. Some riders hardly notice turbulence even without a screen, while others notice it even with a barn door on the front. Yes, the air wings help reduce turbulence for me. Whether they will reduce it for you is unknown.

I would add that the aerodynamics of the helmet have a lot to do with turbulence. I am at my third gen of the ARAI Corsair and the last one is significantly better from that perspective.

Thanks. Yes, very much relative, but annoying if you feel it. I may add a small spoiler. The MadStad with a larger screen was the only thing that solved my problem on my Yamaha Super Tenere.

Yeah, couldn’t agree more that it is annoying if you feel it, Dale. Unfortunately, with windscreens you can only find out once you put them on. The F4 gives me more protection than the Madstad, and I would imagine the wings would provide even more protection, with the benefit of being able to open them when required. I will indeed be getting a set for my F3-L.
