2010 RS good first spyder?
I'm looking at a 2010 rs SM5 w/40500 miles for sale on Craigslist Washington DC. Is the owner a spyderlovers member?
If not, is this a good candidate for a first spyder, assuming all recall issues are worked and verified by brp? It has highway pegs, a trunk passenger backrest, and aftermarket seat.
Intent is for occasional two ups on Skyline Drive and the back roads between DC and Roanoke.

Depends...
Depends on the price and your budget. Oh and who you ask.... My first was and is an 2012 RS Sm5 with now 43,000 miles and I think it is the best of the models made. Now they no longer make them and they have added the Ryker and a very good price and fully automatic. You just have to test them out and see what suits you best. But to answer your question I would say it is a good first spyder...

My bad. They are asking $5500.

I have a 2011 RSS SE5 with 39000 miles. Only 2 problems. It eats rear tires, no matter the brand. And I've replaced the paddle shifter twice.
I've added the taller stock windscreen, FOX shocks, BAJARON sway bar and a throttle lock. Good machine. It is my first and probably my only Spyder. After all, I am well into my 8th decade of life.

I also am going to buy my first SpYder this weekend (for my wife). I am going after a 2010 RT SE5 with 33k miles, and all the bells and whistles for $8600.

I think a 2010 RS SM5 is a great, first Spyder. They are fun to ride and reliable. A lot of aftermarket stuff is available too. As long as the price is right, 40k on a decently maintained Spyder is not a problem.
Only SLOW people have to leave on time...

Any GS/RS SM5 is a good first Spyder. They are simpler than the SE and the more complex RT models. They can be had cheaper than the Ryker, and one that's been maintained is pretty reliable.

Looks like a nice bike. Has a custom seat and that back box isn't standard either. Also has floorboards, a nice touch. Real pretty blue.
Do run a vin check on it to verify mileage and any potential issues. Probably good to have the bike looked over by an independent mechanic. Take a good look at the condition of the belt and look at all the receipts for maintenance done. Good luck if you get it. Nows the time to be buying.

Thanks to all who replied! Work has been a beast lately, so i had not read this for a while. This RS was sold as I was asking for opinions. But hope springs eternal, and this SO has green lighted me for shopping! Lookin at both a 2011 RT and a 2012 RS. Wish me luck!

If you are good with manual transmissions then yes. I'm starting my daughter off with an SE5 semi-auto. $5500 to $8500 depending on mileage & extras is the usual going rate here in Hampton Roads (South of DC). For example there is a 2008GS with heated grips, excellent shape (person in our local Spyder group) for $5500 on Facebook Marketplace.
