Is this a good price?
Hello,
Newbie here, contemplating my first Spyder! Coming from the scooter world....
I have an option from a local dealer for a new 2018 RT, white, for $21,600 out of the door (plus tax). Can anyone tell me if that is a fair price?
Thanks!

Sounds good to me for a Limited. Is that what it is?

It is a little high for the RT model (not RTL) - i saw one recently for less than $21 at iMotorsports. The 2019's are out so they should be trying to get rid of that 2018 quick.

If you search through this web site you will find much discussion about the problems with the 2018 instrument cluster and its associated systems. For that reason it seems to me the big question is, is the value of the problems of a first year introduction of new electronic systems just to get a lower price worth the hassle when the second model year of such systems may have significantly corrected them even though the newer bike will cost more? The question obviously does not consider the depreciation hit you would take on the sale of a 2019 should you find that you do not like the Spyder. Then again, if you are certain that you want an RT or RTL based on some serious test riding, the depreciation hit goes away unless you want a new bike every year or two. Tactics vs strategy.
Artillery lends dignity to what would
otherwise be a vulgar brawl.

I can't really address your questions, but I want to say
Where in Kansas are you? I'm in Junction City.

Not a limited, just a "regular" RT

That's a high price for an RT. They list around 23k. I wouldn't give more than 18k for that. You can get and RTL for what they want. Look elsewhere.

Thank you for your Input. I have been looking elsewhere but nowhere did I find anything as low as what you quote. Any ideas where I can check, and perhaps get back with a lower counter-offer backed up by data? I like the dealer and it is local, so I’d rather do business with them, if the prices are comparable. Thank you.

Mine was listed for $29.999 then dropped to $23,999 before the Rykers were anounced in August 2018.

A bit high on that price for the RT model. If the price was OTD including all taxes, fees, and an additional year extension of the BEST warranty, I think it would be an OK deal. From 2014 until now there have been no major changes in the RT or RTL except for the electronic changes made for 2018. Some people here think the changes were good but many have expressed dissappointment. The RTL previously referred to in this thread is a good example of what can be bought for less money while getting more bike. Good luck whatever you do..... Jim

One of the issues is financing. Buying new through the dealer I have access to zero percent financing for 60 months, although the price in that case becomes $23,000 plus tax. I figured that $2,400 is probably worth the advantage of keeping the cash handy in case I need it and earning some interest on that. Buying used that is not an option.

IMotorsports has several 2018 RTLs for $23,000 delivered to your door and with financing available..... Again, more bike, less money. Maybe see if your dealer is willing to match price. No reason for you to over pay..... Jim

Imotorsports or other dealers in ill have best prices. Greenville Texas dealer has good deals also. A plain RT is pretty striped down. I would get an RT Limited in dark or chrome. There are more of them available.

Speaking just on the subject of a preowned 2014 and newer vs. a new 2018, here is our experience... After riding both a 2018 RT-L Dark and a 2014 RT-S and reading a lot I have to agree with LeftCoast. Notice he said serious look. We bought a 2014 that the odometer just turned 8,000 miles. This is my personal experience and to note...I get dealer to dealer pricing on new or pre-owned.
If you would rather go the new route and with your local dealer (for various reasons) then by all means do, but looks like there is plenty of good advice in this thread.
Cheers!

The way to avoid the slow computer issue is: #1.- turn the key to the ON position #2.- suit up … #3.- start your Spyder …………..end of slow to drive issue …..jmho …. Mike

While the wait is not immediate with instant gratification, it certainly is a far cry from forever. Never actually timed the delay while booting up, but should.
To the original post, it seems each model year of RT series has a quirk. Considering just the 1330 types, early versions had some DESS issues, later years have seen pulley wear issues, newest versions have had complaints about the electronics. Honestly, buy something nice that fits your budget and enjoy. Even if you wait for the computer to boot up.

As for computer boot up I’m going to say about 7 secs but it does seem like watching water waiting for it to boil. I do exactly what Blueknight said, insert key and turn it then go spend the next minut trying to see over my belly to put my boots on!
