What oil do you use on your Spyder?
Hi everyone,
Just curious, what oil you guys and gals run in your spyders and why?
Thank you and have a great day.

Amsoil 10W40, I have used it in all my Spyders (4) and no problems and the transmissions all seamed to shift much smoother.

Thanks for the option, XPS kits are pricey.

My main comment to the OP is to ensure that a synthetic is used per the BRP recommendations in the owner's guide. Now, me, I use Amsoil in everything except my Z06. Chevrolet put Mobil 1 in it from the factory and I continue to use it for that car. I have read several independent (NOT paid for by lubrication interests) testing reports and have talked with two engine builders who tear down and build high compression engines for a living. As a result, Amsoil is the choice I made, but I really don't think you can go wrong with any synthetic oil made today. They are extremely good.
Also, I do NOT sell Amsoil, nor do I know anyone who does. I have always ordered directly off of their website......

Use whatever you want as long as it meets the API service specifications specified in your operators guide. Also do not add any oil additives or use oil meeting API service specification SM as warned on pg 95 of your operator's guide because it can cause clutch problems. Remember too that the only way you can tell how your oil is performing is to have it analyzed.

Valvoline 10w40 Synthetic Motorcycle oil from Walmart at $6.75 a quart. Most important is Using a JASO M2 Rating and Not just Jaso . Unless you use BRP oil.

I use the Valvoline Motorcycle Oil, 4T Stroke Full Synthetic, 10W-40. It has the Superior Wet Clutch protection, and it exceeds API SERVICES SJ/SG/SF, JASO MA2.
I have a 2014RTS-SE6, and I switched OEM oil to the above in 2015. I have been using the above oil since then with no issues.

I am truly amazed at how many Spyder riders have their motor oil analyized **. I'm not against it, I just know dozens & dozens of sport bike riders & racers who beat the hell out of their engines reving to 12K-15K rpm & above who never tested their oil--me either. Both of my engine failures were the valve seat melting out of the aluminum head--using NOS at the end of the 1 mile land speed run--the 1st crossed the finish line at 193 mph & the 2nd at 196 mph. I have no idea of the speed when the valve seat separated from the head but I doubt it was oil failure. Like I said--I have nothing against having it tested--maybe I'm learning something--the Spyder has a low power-low rpm engine. Maybe it saves the clutch.

This Valvoline is what I used to use because ( it is great oil ) & I got a couple of cases at a fantastic price ….. I am now switching to the Shell Rotella T-6 ( which also is a superior oil ) because I got a few gallons at an even better price …..both of these oils are Full Synthetic ……………. Mike
