High Mileages on the Three Cylinder Engines?
The title says it all, just curious about the longevity of the Rotax engine. Thanks to those who respond.

some on SL have 100,000 miles of smiles and more on theirs....
i'm knocking on 50K myself... IF properly maintained, these things could run forever in my estimation....

75,000 on our RT. I know others have more. I may think about replacing it (RT) after 200,000 miles.

Chuck did his mileage with a triple: it was a 2014 RT-L...
Although Spyderjockey has put over 120,000 miles on his 2008 GS...

Almost 20,000 on my 2015 RTS. No problems. Great power train.

I have a 2015 RT which I purchased with 10,200 last July (2017) now just to turn 22,000 miles. No engine problem at all, was getting DESS Key and replace the DRSS Key modular only thing I have had. That is no engine problem. It runs great.

Correct
You are correct Bob. I thought of retiring my 2014 RT-S after a mid speed get-off.
But there have been improvements, in me physically, and my beloved RT, (new rear tire).
I have been all around motorcycles most of my life and I have never seen such a well made
engine. 157,458 miles and never any issues with this engine. No valve adjustments, no
timing chain adjustments, no fiddling with carburetors, just keep good oil in it and ryde!
200,000 miles just may be the break in ryde....
2 cents worth.

Indeed
Yes, I do ryde the 2014 1330 ACE 2014 RT-S. I do wish I'd have sprung the extra
$2000 for the "L" model, but I'll settle for this plain ol' "S".

mileage
I have been told by motorcycle mechanics that the engine should last for about 2,500 hours before it needed to be rebuild which is probable 150,000 - 200,000 miles.

By today's standards, 150-200,000 miles is short lived. A properly maintained engine should last much longer than that. Last year I sold one of my 2002 Goldwings that had 189,000 miles. It was as reliable then as the day it was new. I kept the other 2002 Goldwing which only has 105,000 miles and it too is as reliable as it was when new. Neither bike has ever had anything mechanical done except for regular oil/filter changes. Neither bike EVER needed any oil added between changes. And, keep in mind, they were built 16 years ago. Mechanically, I don't think our 3 cylinder Rotax engines are any less durable than Hondas. The thing that worries me most about our engines longevity is not mechanical, but all the electrical gizmos associated with its operation.

Thanks for that comment, makes me feel pretty good about the Spyder vs GW, since you were a former GW rider that moved over the to the Spyder. If I think I can get 100K miles from a machine, that is comforting.

Likewise - We have just switched over to a new 2018 RT from a 2003 Goldwing with > 100,000 miles on it. Goldwings are known for routinely going 300k miles or more so I'm also curious as to whether the Spyder will come close.
-
Mark, I'll be following you comments on the GW vs Spyder RT.

I have 62K+ on mine now in a month and a half shy of five years and it just purrs along. At my age I suspect that my bones may give up before the Spyder but hope both will get me to 200K.

Rotax engines have always been known for their reliability and longevity. Rotax makes engines for everything from watercraft to aircraft. They tend to be bullet proof.
