    Default Both gauge dials sticking

Anyone had this one ? Only twice, parked in direct sunlight. Turned key, both gauges stuck, hit mode button and they were fine.

Whenever I park, I pull the safety tab out to help shield from the sun. If it is realaly hot, I throw a small white towel over the instruments. Some have had permanent damage especially if the shield heats up the dash. Givi shield comes with a warning about the magnified effects of the sun through the plexiglass.

I haven't had the dials stick, but I have had the LED display go completely blank (white) while the dials do their normal power on self test swing to limits and then back to zero. I hit the mode button and it started and the LED display all came back no problem.

My Spyder has done this two or three times over the last year. It was always when parked in a garage so it was not heat related.

As it is very intermittent, I wrote it off to random gremlins and hadn't thought much about it.

Has anyone else seen the LEDs stay white?

I get the same thing from time to time.
Needles move and the LCD just goes completely blank
Hit the mode switch and it all comes back and your good to go
Happens about once in every 20 starts.

Have you guys ever checked the connector on the back of the display?

Had my guage set out to mount my GPS a few weeks ago. It did it before and it still does it now. I was very careful after hearing about what happened to Lamont a few weeks back.

What windshield are you running? Some have had problems with larger shields causing the dash to heat up when parked in direct sunlight..... Never heard of gauges stuck--- but have heard of melted parts. Could be something to look at - but if it's now working--- I'm thinking some kind of electrical short or problem.

Check your relays and fuses and make sure all are seated good.

Good point...do certain materials...Lexan vs. plexiglass allow for more of a magnifying effect and thus more heat?

A little off topic, but still related to the gauges. Ever since getting the steering recall update, when starting the Spyder, I press the M button or the handle bar button to clear the message about pressing the M button. After the Spyder has been running for a minute or so, the message comes back.

Firefly told me about that on his Spyder this weekend and I thought he was nuts! (he probably is, but that's another post! ). Well, sure enough, mine started doing it that same day! Could his Spyder have given my Spyder a disease?!

I think the fix needs a fix. I read on another site that BRP said about 60 % of the people that had the steering recall were content. I'm due but still haven't done it yet.

Yes. Last time was when I took the dash apart to do my handlebar riser upgrade. I've had the "white screen" before that and after. Guess it is just a minor glitch.

Yesterday my display started to dim then came back then faded to white.

It did this several times. Today it is either totally dead, with no speedometer

or tach even or looks like a spastic x-mas tree. I just called my dealer and

they said to come in and they will change it out to see if the dash is the

problem. I'll let you all know what happens.

As promised, here is the latest on my dash.

Went in to my dealer today and 15 minits later left with a new dash.

When I got there the center display was dead. He took one look and

removed the dash from a floor model, put it in my bike, hooked up the

BUDS and synced the dash & bike and I went for a ride. All is now well in

    ville!

It appears that some moisture got inside the dash somehow and really

    made a mess.

. . . . during an install, I unplugged the dash and removed it. It was pretty idiot proof ( I mean, I did it and had no problems ) but, besides the fuses, it is another connection you can check to make sure it is firmly connected and that there is no corrosion in the plug.

A loose or bad connection there would give you the symptoms you and Mike describe.
