Watch out Elio....
As I read that the Elio has been in the making now for 8 years and projection to sell stocks to collect $100,000,000 toward the $130,000,000 they need to put it into production and on the market 2018/2019... Not holding my breath on that....In passing I found this cute little Canadian electric single seater looking to get some deposits...Will this be any better ???
electra-meccanica-solo-ces-2018-3-980x620.jpg EMV Solo and they have a Super Solo that is quite radical...Electra Meccanica (Canada)

I think Elio is dead. I’m not sure I would jump into this crowd begging(funding) thing ever. I think there was a helmet they tried to do this way as well. There’s a sucker born every minute.

I will believe in Elio when I can go to my local Elio dealer, kick the tires, and choose from 100 or so.
PS: I am being factious here.
The Canadian one looks a bit nicer. But I am also going to hold off on the crowd funding. PT Barnum was indeed right.

Was it a deliberate scam ?
Or did he just screw up big time ??
I'm reminded of the Tucker.
Just my opinion, I could be wrong. Of course, If I am, I'm sure someone on this forum will be happy to point it out.

From the Elio website: https://www.eliomotors.com/bring-on-2018/
While we work towards our target of starting production in 2019, we know that the upcoming year will be one of progress and forward momentum.
Same story, different year!

I saw this on Jay Leno's Garage.
Very nice.
Very nice indeed.
Definitely nicer than a slingshot, and equally as nice, but far less expensive than a T-Rex.
Not competition for the Spyder, but it's a nice complement.

The Slingshot isn't made for tall people. I test drove a Venice and it fit me like glove and I'm 6'4". And as you say, nicer than a Slingshot.

Regarding Mr. PT Barnum “ there is a sucker born
every min.”
Julie and I went to the movies, our about once
a year movie out and saw The Greatest Showman.
I was hoping it would follow Barnum’s life and times
Well if you plan on going.....
It is not even close, if you go thinking as I did
you will come away wondering what you just watched.

So, how does an open three wheeler with a steering wheel compare to either a new or used Miata with air and an optionally enclosed cab if necessary?

I was planning on seeing that movie. Barnum was born in Bethel CT. That's the next town over.

I've met Paul Elio and seen his prototypes. I am convinced both he and the vehicle are for real. However, Paul is an engineer, not a financeer nor someone who has ever brought a product to market. In addition, he set some very ambitious goals for the vehicle and that may have been his undoing (and I am not conceding defeat for Elio Motors just yet). Unlike some other "inventors" who use the parts bin to cob together products Paul's idea necessitated inventing many sub-assemblies which is very expensive. In addition, part way through the prototyping process he made a deal with GM to lease/use one of their old factories in Louisiana and use part of the development money to get the plant ready for production. That may have been a huge error.

There is little or no resemblance between Tucker and Elio. Tucker posed a threat to the Big 3 of the late 1940's and they went out of their way to ensure he could not bring his vehicles to market. Tucker actually built 51 working cars and drove them publicly to prove their products. Tucker's company "failed" due to collusion between the Big 3 and a Michigan senator aided by the media. He was accused of securities fraud and even though found innocent his company folded.
The one common thing that could be said about the two vehicles is that they both demonstrated significant new technology. In Elio's case it is the design (3 wheeler) and hyper mileage and the end design that makes it a "commuter car for the masses" (which was once the domain of the VW Beetle). In Tucker's case it was the use of a rear located air-cooled flat-six helicopter engine, safety features such as a collapsible steering wheel and uni-body construction and center headlight that followed the steering wheel.
