The only thing that is am wondering about is which is the REAL Russell?
there is the photo on his posts in the nice "drag" magician outfit (HOT) and then there is the fellow in the videos?
Joe[/QUOTE]
Russell are you avoiding my question? It is popular these days to come out of the closet.

Nope!!
However, let's just qualify that a bit. As far as I'm aware there have been only 2 reports out of over 300 kits installed of concerns/issues that seemingly arose when the magnets were fitted (different things too!) Buuut, both of those were reports of things that simply couldn't be due to the magnets unless somehow the Laws of Physics (& magnetism) as we currently understand them suddenly changed for just those 2 Spyders, & each in a different way, so I'm pretty sure that they were either:
1) coincidental in that they occurred or were first recognised by the owner after the installation; or
2) the magnet installation actually made the owner aware of or revealed a pre-existing condition....
Still, with literally 10's of thousands of miles of testing & a whole lot of research behind them, plus more than 300 successful installations & who knows how many miles travelled/hours of operation now, there really isn't any recognisable downside. Altho I guess if they try hard enough, someone could probably come up with something!!
Oh, hang on - you really don't want to leave your credit cards or wallet on top of the mirrors once the Magics have been installed. but they should be fine in your pocket. And I wouldn't go cuddling the mirrors if you have a pacemaker fitted either; but if your Spyder's existing magneto/alternator & other electronics don't effect your pacemaker, anything pretty much short of cuddling the mirrors shouldn't either - at least that's what I understand from the techs & specialists who should know & all the documentation that looks at this sort of stuff; but maybe you should discuss any potential pacemaker or defribulator concerns with your Healthcare provider or the particular device provider.

The best $100 I've ever spent on an RT mod!!!!
The mirror housing themselves still had a little slop, but not after a few small shots of hot melt glue.
A great product!!!

Seriously: I was wondering about something...
Why do we need to replace all three of the OEM mounts with the magnets? Would it be just as effective to replace just the two lower mounts, and leave the top peg in place?
Or wouldn't that provide enough grip?
Just thinking about what I've seen and heard in recent weeks...
at the outset ,only the two lower pegs were replaced
this due to a need to align the mirror
but it soon dawned that my top peg and no boots top peg were both shot
so development continued and resulted in the spigots we now have
3 spigots evolved to keep the instal simple
another reason: it's a far better closing when you close the bottom first and leave the top open
it allows you to see anything which may get fouled during closing
keeping the top peg wouldn't allow this
as Peter says, this system pretty well ticks all the boxes

Spent the day yesterday buttoning up the Fat White Chick after a major refit, and getting her ready for the long trip to Spyderfest. I had pretty much finished for the day, then I saw that small cardboard box sitting on the work table. So, I decided to take a look at the mirrors. Roughly 15 minutes later both were done and on the bike.
The mirror magnet design is very innovative and an easy install. I was also impressed with the quality of all the parts and the workmanship that went into them.
I can see how some members bloodied their fingers. I was pulling two magnets apart and it slipped from my hand about an inch or so from the remaining stack. With a loud "snap" it was back in place with its brethren, and now with no plastic spacer. Missed my fingers but I had a few fun minutes getting them apart again.
Good on ya, Russ. Cheers.
I really like the fact that you can keep the top of the mirror open and make sure all wiring is out of the way before setting it in place. It's an elegant solution to an annoying problem with those mirrors. I chose not to use the tethers by the way, see no reason for them.

Tethers or no Tethers
I decided to keep the tethers. Reason, for those moments when kids are looking with their hands rather than their eyes. I don't want to risk the mirror being struck from the top and falling to the ground. We all know how easy the mirror comes off when struck on top. I know some will say what are the chances of that. Too those I say, how many have had their antena's broken because some kid wanted to play with it. Tether for me!

Received my set of Magic Mirror mounts in the mail today and then mounted them on Gipsy Danger. Thanks, Russ!
YouTube video makes this install a walk in the park...I was done in about 25 minutes. Decided to go without the tethers on my install.

You really don't need to - the magnets are held securely in place by magnetism alone, the screws serve more as locators than 'holders', altho they too are secured by the magnetism, & by tightening them too much more than as per the instructions/as shown, you just run the risk of cracking the magnets &/or of never being able to get the screws out again!!
They really ain't gonna move by just running them in finger tight & then giving them just a little nip up to secure them as shown, our Spyders definitely aren't Harleys, so screws that long won't vibrate out anyway, AND once they are held by these magnets too, that's triply for sure - so why run the risk of busting something or screwing yourself right royally if you ever need/want to remove/replace the magnets??
But if it's your machine, I guess it is your prerogative to screw things up... err, sorry... in, however much you like....
