BajaRons kit and 2 gal of Shell Rotell T About $ 65.00 Next year will only need 1 gal of oil as there is plenty left. Ran smooth and seemed a bit quieter.

I remember you telling me you were going to venture into your own oil change when we chatted at the Laser Alignment Party in Phoenix. I'm glad it went smoothly. I've done two now, and I take all day. Now that I'm retired, I just don't like to rush.

If you didn't on this change, switch to Dimple or Gold Plugs on the next one. It's far easier to unscrew a hex head plug with hot oil gushing out than turning a slippery, hot round head Torx or Allen plug with a bit in it and oil burning your fingers.

I found that doing an oil change took about the same amount of time as doing one on my Harley. The only difference is removing tupperware to changing three different fluids. I moved my oil filter on my Harley so it was vertical, acted as an oil cooler and added another quart of oil. The biggest thing is removing the tupperware. The nice thing with any oil change no matter what you ride or drive, it gives you time to check things over.

But doesn’t the Dealer check other things during maintenance times? Or are you changing oil sooner then your schedule maintenance intervals?

That's going to depend on the dealer. Some will check other things for free, some will charge. Dealers will also give their Rookies do the oil change jobs and let them practice on YOUR bike. It's a roll of the dice.

No Taz, If I go in for an oil and filter, pay for and oil and filter, I can assure you that the stealer I deal with does NOTHING more than is on the billing list.
YES, Taz, Of course I'm changing oil more often the the 9,300miles that BRP recomends. Once a year is fine with me( and BRP). I think that 9,000 even on good oil is pushing it. I've seen auto oil that has lost all it's ability to absorb acid, broken down it's viscosity improver chemicals ( shearing ), and I won't have that old,degraded, crap in my expensive motor.

That was done at the 3000 mile service proformed at the dealer ( and yes they signed the owners manual to help prove that the service was done by an authorised dealer). It did make it a bit easier but________ they were not torqued to spec. just over hand tight.

At least twice. Power tools, good light, owners manual, open space, organization and a good jack made the job easy.

Okay, hot oil sucks on unprotected hands. Having done hundreds of these, here is the secret: MAN UP ,YOU WIMPS! What's 250 degree oil drizzling all over your hands? 😄😄

Okay, we are smarter than waste oil: put a pair of work gloves( I like blue dot cotton) gloves on, then a pair of nitrile gloves. Costs about a dollar. Pain free! I even deflect splash with my hand, putting my hand in the stream of hot oil. Warm, but not painful. Protect your self! After, pitch them. Best dollar spent today!!! Joe

I just put Dimples on mine last week when I did my 21,000 mile oil change. I anticipate they will be much easier to remove on the next change. Not to mention the benefit of the strong magnets.

Good idea!!! Doesn't the rubber part of the cotton work gloves make it really difficult to get the nitrile golves on??? I think I'll just let the motor cool for half an hour or so. The hot oil treatment is a bit much
