Don't have 5K miles on my Spyder as of yet (a lot of rain here in E Texas has kept me on 4 wheels). This morning I was going to ride! Turn key "on" - and NO screen telling me to read the safety card, etc. -- went instead direct to normal run screen. Bike is in Neutral with brake on. Will not start and no attempt to engage starter at all. After 3 DESS (think that is what it is called) modules replaced and now this.
Any thoughts on this or should I get my tractor out and dig a large hole for the Spyder?

Sounds like something has drained the battery or a battery cable is loose. Check voltage and try to jump start with your car.

On my previous RT I found the following anomaly based on the battery voltage.
When the battery was low it would bypass the read the card screen.
I could tell when the battery was low because of the way it cranked.
Having said that, I agree with Mr.Denman and the eminent Mr. Bovine.
These are the easy ones..but don't feel bad it happens to us all. More so to the ones that seldom use the kill switch... isn't it nice that it was all just a momentary scare...

The Professor Emeritus of Motorcycles, Scotty(Nancystoy) used to make the case that one should always use the kill switch to shut the bike off.
He said it had two purposes.
One it got you used to knowing where the switch was in case you needed it and two it helped you from not being embarrassed when starting.
Hate to tell on myself --- yep, switch was "off".. bike runs great once again.
Thanks, guys!!

Those darn Kill Switches will get you every time. Never had an issue on my Harleys. I fell victim to this on my GL1800 while at a stop light, talk about PANIC. it's happened twice in my first year of ownership of an RTL on startup. You'd think that it wouldn't be so easy to inadvertently kill your ride.

When it's put that way: it makes pretty darn good sense!
As I always say, "Experience is recognizing the SAME mistake every time you make it." Don't feel bad, we all have done it.

I've done something similar on a bike with NOS--it cranked but won't start. $137 tow truck ride home & I remembered the switch when we pulled in my driveway---at least you saved $137

I have not had this happen when starting but I did hit the kill switch going down the road. Talk about a wake up.
So have I. When I put on the cruse Control, sometimes I get too relaxed and rest my hand on top of the handlebar. Right where the kill switch is. I almost panicked the first time it happened. It happened again not too soon afterward. I never learn sometimes.
