Default Smooth spyder tensioner and belt question.

I purchased a smooth spyder pully to help with the belt vibs. Does the belt need to be loosened to a new spec before installing. Belt seems fairly tight from factory. Any seguestions.

After I installed the 'smooth spyder', I took my kricket and loosened up the belt to just above minimum. No vibration and less wear on bearings.

Default Here's how I do it....

Seeing as the tensioners function is the keep the belt tight to the sprocket i did not change the setting on the belt. The tensioner picks up the slack on the bottom so I only followed the instructions for the amount of tension to put on the tensioner. When the slack is lessened the chances of belt vibration is reduced as well. This also lessens the chance of debris getting under the belt when under acceleration...Has worked well for me on the RS but I also have one of the original tensioners from Smoothsypders.....

It does apply some pressure to the belt not just slack. But it is very minimal.
The instructions should say (mine did) that if your belt is at the top end of the spec (thus the smooth spyder adds more), the belt should be adjusted to more middle of the spec.

What spec should the belt be at.

What Spyder model and year do you have?

Here is the most recent BRP service bulletin on the belt tension spec.

    Thanks,
