Ordered the Smooth spyder backrest for my F3. It got here quick. Great service from him. I can only suggest one thing and it is minor. Have some pictures to come with the instructions. Although I was able to figure out how to put it together and mount it just from looking at the pictures on the website others may have a problem! Other than that I love this back rest! I chose this one over the can am as it was cheaper than the can am and unlike the can am one, I can use it while riding by myself or adjust it to the back so the wife can ride and feel little safer. She is the main main reason I got it in the first place. To me that is what makes it worth the money. Now she will hopefully start riding with me.
Congrats & you will enjoy for many miles to come. Im guessing the install vid is quite different for the F3. Jim will get it updated. Still is the best farkle on my bike.

Yeah the install video is for the rs I think but I managed with pictures. I just started putting things together like them and now its on. Between the backrest and the way i have my footpegs, I can pretty much stretch out. Good for cruising.
Credit to how good the design is. Started to fit RS & now all way to F3. My ST not too far off from RS but still very well designed.

I love my SmoothSpyder backrest. I agree that photos would help, but I got mine assembled by reading and rereading the instructions carefully.

I'm contemplating one of these but my only conern is wether the suppots for the backrest will rub the passenger in the rearwards position? As the supports are angled inwards and join to the back rest in the centre they appear to cross the plane of the passenger seat when the rest is reclined to the back postion. I'm concerned about passenger comfort and whether the supports will dig in to either side of the passengers body. The only photo I can't find of this backrest is with a passenger sat on the bike.
Has your potential passenger sat on the F3 yet and if so do you have any feedback?
My wife sat on it the night I got it out on. I asked her how it felt and she said it felt great. She didn't mention anything about it rubbing her sides or anything. But my wife is small like me. When She gets home tonight from work I'll have her sit on it and see how close the sides are to her
Thanks for the feedback and the offer of a test sit from your wife. We're in Florida in May so thinking of ordering on of these to take back to the UK with us.
Not sure I want to start a conversation with my wife about the size of her rear though...........

Lol. I wouldn't either if I were you!! If you did that you will most likely be riding by yourself!
My wife would never go for a ride on my motorcycle. I bought the Spyder and the smoothspyder backrest and she got on for a ride. The first time in 28 years, she liked the rest, said she felt safe.
Before the wife got home I put it in the farthest position where the wife would want it and it is no where near running on her.

I just installed mine recently and it's just right for the wife and myself. Well worth the money over having to purchase two can am backrest. Seems to be sturdy and easy to adjust. Pics or vid will definitely help speed up the process of putting it together.
Smart man... Happy wife happy life! My girl asked me the same thing: "What if I fall off the back?" The answer was simple: "Your sister is single and kinda looks like you." There was no nookie for a week on that one. But I carefully timed it on the week she had the curse going.

Where in Florida are you? Jim is down in South Florida, I'm in Jacksonville, and I bet there are others around the State that would be happy to meet up and let you see it first hand.

I was born and raised in Jacksonville. Retired from the Navy here in New Orleans and now live here with the wife and kids.

Smoothspyder backrest with the can-am saddlebag help needed please.
On my 2015 F-3 SE, I'm trying to install the smoothspyder backrest AND my saddlebags but the bolt isn't long enough to go through the bag spacers AND the seat. Any recommendations? Thanks, Annamarie I'm really looking forward to "ryding" with the seat. And...btw, the seat looks great and it arrived nicely package and very fast.
I haven't had much feedback and am not familiar with the backrest installed with the bags, anyone?
The factory bolts are M8 x 1.25 X 30MM Length.
I include longer M8 X 1.25 X 40MM length bolts.
M8 X 1.25 x 50MM will give you 10MM or just over 3/8" more.Black-Oxide Class 12.9 Socket Head Cap Screw
