asbestos settlement
after working for years in construction, i have asbestos in both lungs. it is not bad, but it does show on x rays. so i just had to sign for a registered letter with a check in it. the lawyers sent me 16.67 for my portion of the settlement the company offered for working around their product and equipment over the years. the lawyers took 8.73 of my settlement.

Hi cuznjohn,
Re: the lawyers took 8.73 of my settlement.
Did anyone force to hire a lawyer? Did you do it of your own volition? Did they promise you that you would get more than that?
I have never known anyone to ever hire a lawyer that they did not want to do so.
You do like to complain, don't you?

PS) I've hired many lawyers over the years; won some/lost some. And my son is an attorney.

jerry i didn't post this to complain about the lawyers, i posted it to show what a class action suit nets you. we started making jokes about lawyers just to have a few laughs. i really don't think i complain a lot about things. i did however complain about the CPAP machine because i hate it, but have to keep it till i have the surgery i am having, then it is history.

Hi cuznjohn,
Re: i posted it to show what a class action suit nets you.
And I, personally, know people who have netted 100's thousands of dollars from those asbestos class action lawsuits.
It might just be that you really did not have that much of a complaint; complaint used in the legal contex.
I do not know your specific legal issues but to complain about lawyers ( and you might not actually be doing that ) is simply wrong.
To complain about one lawyer or law firm is fair game in my book.

Hi Bob,
Re: That your Son is successful; I'm sure that he's heard all of these numerous times.
Oh, yes he sure has heard them. As for the successful, he makes waaaay more money than I ever did.
And his specialty is defending against personal injury lawsuits; how about them apples.

jerry, seriously it was all in jest. were you a lawyer? my case is not a bad case and i am not dying from it. so i expect to never get what really sick people that have it gets. for the 16 bucks they sent me, i thought it was a joke. i would rather they put it in a poor box or give it to a homeless person. i know a guy that got 80k, bit the poor guy can barely breath anymore. i got into the case because someone else said to me WHY NOT DO IT.

Hi vided,
Re: the lawyers have turned this country into a whiney sue crazed society
I disagree. It is the juries that have done that.
And re: have turned this country is completely incorrect. Alexis de Tocqueville in his book, Democracy in America (appearing in two volumes: 1835 and 1840) said that eventually all decisions in America will be determined in a court of law.
The 'problem' you address has been with us since we became a nation.
