    Default Thermometer

Today, I took a laboratory thermometer with me on a ride. The F3-S read 39 degrees F. My lab thermometer read 32 degrees F.

Is there any way to calibrate the thermometer?

    Default Different temps

My understanding from other posts is that the temperature read out you are seeing is taken at a place that is closer to the engine and is used for fuel mixture calculations if I remember correctly, and was not intended to be a true outside temperature gauge.

That is what I thought. But, why show it on the display?

I wonder how many people realize the outside temperature gauge is not correct and switch the display to RPM.

Ironically, when I go to switch the turn signals on with thick winter gloves, I somehow keep changing the display to RPM. Maybe I should leave it that way.

    Default My guess....

It is a reference...and if performance changes you can check the intake air temp. Best way to calibrate is a sticky temp Guage on the windshield.....

    Default THERMOMETER

....I just went through this with my RT. I don't know how far from the engine your temp pk-up is , mine is almost 2 ft. away and there is quite a bit plastic in between it and the engine......Check a " FICHe' " and see if you can move it farther away.....or find out from the dealer () if it's calibrated correctly......It does also tell the computer some vital info to set the AIR MIXTURE !!!!!.............. Found out last summer it can be WAY off. Fyi nice day 90ish. Stopped for lunch non shaded asphalt lot hop on to leave & dash goes orange HIGH ENGINE TEMP!! LIMP HOME MODE!! ¿ freaks me out i spot amb temp is 107*F know well its not, im hot but not THAT hot still in Louisiana. So i check weather app on phone. High was 95. I pull around to shade enjoy talking with employees on smoke brake while i wait 30min or so & try again. & np back to 90's. & off i go. Just made sure to find shaded spots or grass(if long visit)after that fyi tech told me the sensor was close to air intake if not in the airbox. To protect the engine "not made for our info requirements". Too many accessory distractions. "You know whats too hot or cold & dont need a dash to tell you!"

Doc, don't check the speedo for accuracy. Mine was off 3 mph.

The thermometer on our F3 is accurate, but very slow to stabilize. It often starts out too high or too low, but after a while it matches the temp shown on my Indian (which is always within a degree of correct) We can ride from a sunny area into a low lying shaded area where my thermo will drop several degrees very quickly. Her F3 thermo may only change by a degree and then we're back into the warmer air. When we leave the garage for a ride it takes a long time for the F3 to give an accurate temp. (which it eventually does)

The temperature gauge will be within a couple degrees of actual once the has been run for about 10 miles or so.

Picky, Picky Picky, might be worrying about the Piss Ants here while the Elephants are running over us. Don't focus on the Temperature while riding,

focus on the road, traffic, next lunch stop etc. Remember the Temp gauge is mounted inside the Spyder and it takes a little time for it to acclimate to

    the OAT.

I'm not "worrying", but I am curious. This is the same thing I posted in the mpg thread yesterday.
