The Proper Condiment
WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! This topic may be offensive to some, may or may not contain information about , may or may not contain references to oil posts, tire posts, helmet posts, fence posts or battery posts.
In hopes of getting some meat into our discussions which, according to some, have been going down the tubes lately...I wish you to consider...
Labor Day is rapidly approaching. The last of the summer season final cookout bash will soon be upon us. One of the items that are served at these picnics as well as many State Fairs is the lowly hot dog.
I have developed my opinion on the question to follow, but do not want to cloud this thread with unnecessary facts.
What is the proper condiment, if any, to properly dress and present the hot dog? Explain if you have the urge.

If ya'll come South, you will get slaw, in NC it may be white or red. Fact of life. Don't gag till ya try it.

Spicy brown mustard and chopped onions, washed down with a cold beer.

Yes Bob, good Brats. I'm talking the good imports from Germany. The white ones. If I can't get them, Johnsonville will work. I boil mine in beer then finish them on the grill.
Now as to the OPs question. Down here in the south a hot dog is served all the way unless specified otherwise. That includes mustard, onions, chili, slaw. Most hot dogs here are Bright Leaf. They are a red dog. I don't mind them, wife doesn't like them. I prefer an all beef dog such as Ball Park. I will never tolerate Ketchup on my hot dogs.

Here's the thing..!!
my hot dogs are stuffed with dill pickles, cheese, wrapped in bacon and char broiled. I serve them with a mix of mayo, mustard and black pepper. To add anything else is to ruin the perfect hot dog... now if its just a dog...mustard and mayo...then the other stuff like relish, onions, chili, cheese...etc
