Hot weather operation
Left about 2:30 PM, ambient 111 F on shaded patio, north side of house.
Temperature gauge went to 5 bars (middle) about 1/2 mile from home and never deviated from that position.
Fan came on while looking for a shaded parking spot at 7 mph (well, i can dream!)...but gauge never moved.
Fan came on a few times, waiting at signals, usually just before the green light...and these were long boulevard signals.
About 20 miles, 3 stops, over a period of 2 hours.
Ambient down to 109 1/2 F, when I returned...99.7 F in garage.
Sounds and smells normal.
Engine oil level at full mark.
Oil looks as clear as mile 1.
Only 724 miles since May 7, but enjoying family activities which preempted more riding.

It's fargin' hot! I'd been riding the Spyder to work all week (swing shift, St Rose Pkwy to Las Vegas Blvd, 11 mile ride). I kept having to look at my right foot because I thought it was on fire. Between the heat coming off the right radiator and the sun cooking from above it was borderline unbearable. The ride home at night was nice, but the ride to work in the afternoon... I drove the Jeep in today...

I am glad for quality boots!
The heat at the feet will be welcome come winter!
A long sleeve Carhartt T shirt works well...but going up Lee Canyon earlier this week, it was a bit cool at 8,500 feet. Spent more time than normal viewing wild horses.

It was 113F here today. When it's this hot, the only riding I do is in the golf cart to the pool and back. Even for the short trip to the pool, the air feels like a hot hairdryer blasting my face. It's good to know the machinery can take it in this hot weather. But this 73 YO leaves the bike in the garage when it gets above a hundred..... Jim

Fans coming on more than normal, check the grill and radiators for bugs. Love bug season the grill can get almost choked off in a few hundred miles.

If you wear boots and long pants you will be cooler than wearing your shorts.

Good advice, but thus far Ryker fan thermal activated only at very low speed or stopped.

YOU ARE ONE OF THE MOST UNSAFE RIDERS IN THE WORLD TO DRESS LIKE THAT WHILE RIDING! WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU??? To be completely safe, you need to wear flip flops.

I got kevlar jeans, and kevlar hoodie. (ofc with proper back protection etc) It is a nice option, fairly well ventilated, at least compared to leather or gore tex MC-gear. Riding in the summer with a decent level of protection without sweatting is probably an utopia

flip flops, thats how I took my first 20 mile ride on a spyder. We had been camping next to a couple who carried in a spyders and as we chatted the next few days the male owner asked me if I wanted to take it around park. So we both bet on and I'm cruising around with him on the back. He says wow I have never sat on the back and its nice back here. So after we toured the park a couple laps heading toward the gate of the camp ground he says go out on the road. The we got up to speed maybe 45 and thats when it hit me that not only was I wearing flip flops we didn't even have helmets on... I yell back WHAT about helmets. He said no helmet law here in this state. So yep My first 20 miles I was wearing no shoes no helmet, shorts and i guess a tee shirt...

I know you were only joking (as was I) but in truth I'd sooner ride barefoot than in flip flops. Flip flops are too loose on your feet and I'd be afraid the would get in the way or try to come off at the wrong time. At least barefoot I wouldn't have that problem.

Not sure why I'd need a dermatologist. I've lived in Southern Nevada for 27 years wearing shorts and tank tops and other than getting a little darker in the summer, have never had any skin issues. Must be that dark Italian complexion.

GiddyUp, love bugs now dormant in FL, getting those things out of the radiator not an easy job. Lovin' that heat gauge on the Spyder vs the Gold Wing trike, Spyder never moves off dead center, most comforting.

I have a silver mesh riding suit. In the Arizona sun, it's actually cooler than the tee shirt and jeans alone. I guess because it reflects some of the sun.
