    Default Tough one...

Depends on if you feel it is the clutch, engine or brakes.. Is it a manual or an automatic..?? and are you at the right RPM for the shift. bent or warped disc can give the lurching feeling when brakes are applied, clutch would be more on shifting on the SE or the wrong oil was used and the clutch is slipping and I could go on but need more information on this...

Is it when it auto-downshifts? If so, that is normal engine rev-matching. As for the poor gas mileage, they kinda suck.

    Default Throttle grip

I have caught myself more that once giving my F3 just a little throttle when gripping the handlebars. This tends to increase the RPM's slightly causing a lunge type effect. I mainly do it when I stop/take off. This could be something to check. Would attribute to poor gas mileage.

IT IS WHEN I APPLY THE BRAKE AND COMING TO A STOP BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND GEAR LIKE A HARD DOWNSHIFT LUNGING HARD

Like I said, it is autoshifting down and rev-matching. Perfectly normal.

Believe he might know what downshifting is and what it feels like sine he has 17,000 miles on it! I had the same issue awhile back. Never really found the true reason, but dealership noted oil on belt that might have been the issue, but I'm not convinced. It that was the case thought it would have lunged on the up-shift also, but only in down shift, and mostly in a corner. Lunges were hard enough it was like applied full ABS.

    Default Downshift

I had a 2012 RT semi automatic with 65,000 miles. While traveling cross country I had similar problems. Turned out to be a location sensor that needed replacement. It was replaced and the problem was solved.

The 998s were never as smooth as the 1330s; when it comes to downshifting automatically.
Depending upon exactly what you are feeling: it might just be how they work, or you might need to have a sensor replaced.
Have your dealer take a peek at it, and please let us know what they say; good luck!

I originally had a 2011 that I bought from a gentleman with 200 miles on it. I always had terrible lunging at all downshifts. I thought it was normal. It wasn't until I took a test ride of a later model that I learned that it was not right!! I had Smoak ride it and learned that the clutch was toast and --- always was. He replaced the clutch pack and it was as I never knew it!.. Apparently the PO rode it at low RPMs most of the time and burnt the clutch pac up.

I will take it to my dealer and have them look at it it's still on the warranty I'm thinking it is the location sensor it is not the normal reving on the downshift I eve had this bike since 2012 brand-new I put every mile on it I know this bike inside it out
