Updates for 2018...
Each year I make a post of the top things I'd like to see for the next model year. From what I understand of the 2017, here's my list for Can-Am for 2018.
- Bluetooth - phone to stereo. Control of phone music from handlebar controls.
- Enhanced stereo playback control from handlebars. Currently if you select a new playlist it will only play in order of artists. A "Random" option would be nice.
- Backlit controls for high beam/low beam switch.
- Crisp feedback for turn signal and cruise control switches. They're mushy. It's easy to set a turn signal when you try to cancel one.
- Fix the clock. The clock runs fast on almost ALL Spyders.
- Fob instead of keys like Harley and Indian.
- Stiffer sway bar so we won't all be replacing ours.
- Built-in belt stabilization so we won't have the vibration at 65-75 mps.
- Built-in TPMS - it would be nice to have a display on the dash or GPS (Garmin has that option on some models).
- Brighter turn-signal indicator on dashboard. The current one is only useful at night.
- Better grips. Stock Spyder grips and skinny and feel like bicycle grips to me.
- A better rear-wheel air valve position so that you don't have to have 10 inch fingers with 8 joints to get to the valve stem.
Thoughts and additions?
2020- RT Limited
Chalk White, Can-Am rear passenger armrests, Comfort Seat, Grip puppies, RAM Cup Holders, Providence RAM Mount
FOBO2 TPMS
Aluma MCTXL trailer
BRP hitch
Big Bike Parts wiring harness
Permanent Smile!!!

Since we're re-designing the RTs now; I'd like to see the following changes made:
1. A 2" longer wheelbase. This will allow BRP to expand the seating area for ride and passenger.
2. The above change will REALLY mess with the belt design... How about making the change to shaft-drive?
3. longer and deeper saddlebags. Give us more storage space.
4. Give us a top trunk that you can put two full-face helmets in.
5. How about an improved radio system
6.Is a built-in Navigation System too much to ask for?

My Two Cents
Only had mine for 2 weeks and have found the need to chime in on a few things.
1. Stereo volume control needs to increase/decrease using only one touch instead of repeatedly pushing it.
2. Bigger saddlebags.
3. Better color selection, I really like blue but that color in unavailable on the F3 Limited.
4. Brighter turn signal indicators. (I have already addressed that issue with amber LED's in the mirror housing, photos pending).

If they institute many of those changes I'll be jealous of the new models again.

I think I like these up grades the best. But if they are to come, then it will also need more hp to deal with the extra weight.

Yeah; You're probably right...
I just don't know if they're ready to give the engine an update yet...

So that vibration I feel at 62-66 means my bike belt needs a tensioner? I used to have a 2010, it had the same vibration. Here I am thinking it's inherent in the breed. I have a 2015 f3. So I wonder why can-am doesn't fix it before ya buy it (

How about a defroster? A simple air diverter to channel warm air from behind the radiator to the front window.

BRP belt tensioner
Has anyone installed the brp belt tensioner on an RT.using Doc Humphrey's after market parts to make it work. Thank you.

I'd forego ALL.....
....the trivial stuff listed just to see better reliability in the stuff my 2014 RT-S already has.
1- Rear tires that last as long at the fronts
2-Get the quirks out of the existing computer software
3- Upgrade the compressors and figure out how to keep stones from sitting under and rubbing through the air bags
4- Keep stones out of the belt (or go to shaft drive!)
5-Increase the frame strength so they don't crack. I've seen at least one posting on here about that and heard first hand of another.
6-Upgrade front suspension so the frunk bottom is not hitting the road constantly without installing aftermarket items.
7-Increase dealer presence so we don't have to drive 50+ miles for needed services
8- Make the $30K machine WORTH $30K!
NEVER, look straight up at a bird ....NEVER drink downstream from the herd ....and NEVER, EVER squat....with your spurs on!!!

Another idea for the RTs. A dual filament set of headlights instead of the phony shutter system.
And, a motorized headlight adjuster. That was one of the best features of my Honda ST 1300.

Here is my 2 cents on a RT
1. Have a bigger saddlebags
2. Have a painted dashboard (as a option) the same color as the spyder! ( I am kind a partial to the painted dashboard, see my posts)
3. Have a Dess system that works!
4. Two/tone color ( example: Turquois/ Tan)
5. Add a 7th gear!

I agree about the mushy switches. Most times I'm looking down to make sure I cancelled the turn signal.

Get rid of the analog gauges, all of them. Then the digital stuff can be made LARGER. You know so you can read them while riding.
Temperature of ambient air would be nice.
