There are places you can do that and there are places you can't. I would think the dealer knows if it was "OK" to do that based on history at their dealership.

I'm thinking that if your Spyder had been stolen while under your dealer's care and custody, THEY would have had to replace it under their insurance policy. Still, it would have been a pain to deal with.

There were NO store personnel anywhere out there. Bay door was down. Several random people out there with trailers loading and unloading. It was truly up for grabs! One of the service writers said "It wasn't out there all day." Gee thanks.
Yes nothing happened and yes it's insured but weren't they playing fast & loose? If something would have happened all signs point to me having to file a police report & insurance claim which makes me even hotter.
It's over and all but I guess I'm just peeved that my baby was treated so carelessly.

of dealer please. Glad it turned out ok for you & maybe giving the time of day & location they felt too comfortable with the tricky mode button hidden safety featureż. You surely should get decent discount on next service with a friendly reminder of this incident, just be fair.

Unless someone knows how to start a spyder they wouldn't get it anyway. I have left my key in the ignition a few times. Once for over an hour. Was still there.

I don't see it as a problem. If you have polite customer service reps, knowledgeable mechanics, and they aren't ripping you off, you are doing better than many people taking their spyders to other dealers.

Simple....
Have worked for dealerships and had my own shop and this is not uncommon. if you are going to continue with them just make sure they put a note on the work order to not leave the key in the machine if parked outside....

IMHO if you have a concern about that, it's your right regardless of what other might think! What, Is it too much work to remove the key from the ignition, and put it in a safe place? I bet that if they could have charge you a fee for removing the key, they had done it, and you would have seen the charge on the invoice! thank God nothing happened to your bike! Next time you have to leave your bike there, tell them you want the key removed unless the bike is inside! ; was it worth posting? YES!

I have done that myself and come out and told myself "oh, sh*t" but then I think that only about 2 percent of the population knows how to start and pull away on one of these things!!!
