Yeah... the windshield topic does come up a lot. And, that's good, I think. There are so many opinions. And, now; there are so many nice choices. That's a good thing.
For me, as I have said before; I really like the BRP Ultrasport windshield. I have ridden as far as 360 miles in a day including back country, and super highway. Sure! There is more buffeting with a lower windshield. But, that's okay! And, I do wear a full modular HJC Helmet. I will always wear a helmet. I was nearly killed 30 years ago in a nasty crash. I was not wearing a helmet. No lectures from me, though. And, Tennessee is surrounded by states that have no helmet law. I prefer not to take any chances. It nearly cost me my life in 1978.

I have a Chad and love it! Yes it's big, but I like the looks of it. I live in Minnesota and am riding in the 30's. The Chad really blocks the cold wind well. Because it's adjustable both my husband (tall) and I (really short) can use it. I also like being able to adjust it for more or less ventilation depending on the temp. I get only smooth air over it no matter what height it's at, and so I can leave my helmet shield open if I want to. It is really well made.

If you are a little adventuresome - sounds like you might be - just get on the Spyder and motor on over to see Marcel of F1 Windshields. I think he has a new drive in service.
He's in Port Charlotte so maybe that calls for using the vette and sitting on his Spyders. That way your SO can particiapte in your new passion.

I have had the CalSi for 8 months now and am very happy with it. I often ride with a half helmet and it deflects just enough wind to make the ride comfortable. You still get wind, but it's not blowing hard in your face.
It's as great on the superslab as it is around town. I also rode all winter here in Dallas and it offered good protection from the cold (I know, it's relative) and rain.
Highly recommended.

I got the CHAD from Magic Man No Magic Neon and we installed it this week. HDX rode with it and LOVES it! I have a nice black and yellow full face but it's bugging the hell out of my neck. I wanna go back to my little shorty helmet or no helmet at all in the summer. Can't do that with the stock shield - too much wind.
I get to finally try it out tomorrow on our trip to VT and I can't wait! I'll be wearing a 3/4 instead of my fullface and hoping I can breath. That darn full face feels so constricting. They are cool looking but I am too clostraphobic for those things.
It's a large shield and I got the one that's black on the bottom and clear the rest of the way up. I think it compliments the Spyder. It definitely takes your eyes off the antenna (mirrors) - now those stick out way too much if you ask me. The windshield draws your attention away from those.
And HDX is the tech person in the house so when he says it's very well made then what he says goes.

I have a CalSci medium for three seasons and the I7 C.H.A.D. for winter. Both are excellent.

I think the top choices are the chad and the calsci...I'm awaiting a price for the new BRP...that one has some hand protection and it looks really nice...may go with that one if we can get a really good price...
Those who are interested, lemme know...the same place I get the hindle for 430.00 delivered will get us the windshield cheaper than anyone else...

I have an XL CalSci. I am only 5'8" but I ordered the XL because I had tried the looks of one on another Spyder and it fitted me better. I am very satisfied with it. I have always had windshields on all my bikes since 1966 and this one is the most comfortable. The small cut-out allows for air to flow through the windshield enough to prevent a partial vacuum forming and cause turbulance. Of course, I still feel air, but that's part of riding. So, the dumb question I have...what is it made of. Looks like plexiglass to me.
Pics in my photo album.

I put a CalSci medium on the wife's Spyder (jwhatman) and she got to try it out for the first time today. She loved it, it created a nice pocket behind the shield with just enough air coming through the vent to eliminate the low pressure area and keep the air moving over and around her cleanly.
To determine size here's our information, she's 5' tall and I'm 5' 9". For me the top of my head is in the disturbed air and I get buffeting at eye level. For her she can look over but the air goes over her helmet and she says the ride is clear and smooth.

Hubby put on my new Calci windshield and it works great. No head buffeting, clean air all around. I am only 5' tall so the height is even perfect. The riding ws much better than the fly screen that it comes with. When I get the 4" risers, all will be perfect.

While I like the looks of the stock and sport touring windshields from BRP I found that they just weren't enough for me. I bought a Cal-sci large and really enjoy it. I've found that up close it doesn't look as odd as I though they did in pictures.
As for the no helmet, since it's getting to be brutally hot again here in Florida I've switched back to a MX helmet. Still provides some protection, it's DOT approved, and keeps my head cool with some wind in the face.

My folks are in Sarasota. Mom was telling me last night that it's getting humid now. We get some nasty humid weather in CT too and I am so looking forward to NOT wearing my full face now that I have the CHAD! I have a little shorty - just enough to keep my hair from turning into a bird's nest.

Eh, better to be safe than sorry....CHAD won't do much to protect your head...just open up all the slots and move fast enough to get air...
I'm here in MD...where the heck is spring?
