It's road salt for me too. I don't mind the cold, I can dress for that, but I won't ride with salt on the roads

When the Magnesium Chloride deicer is sprayed on the roads here, Great White goes into hibernation. Bad enough that it coats the underside of our car, which I can take to the car wash and have the underbody washed, but no way am I gonna get it all over the Spyder.

I take it all into account, I keep the tank full and the battery tender on if there is a break in the weather, no recent salt on the road and above 32 I am going for a ride. Although last winter in NY was Mild we road on Christmas Day, I took 2 short rides in January but none in February. Someday will live where I don't have to worry about putting it away.

    Thumbs up Snow and Salt

I stop riding and start maintenance and modification when salt hits the road.
The Spyder goes up on blocks and the farkles begin.

    Default End of Ryding Season

Here in the Albany/Schenectady NY area they put a salt brine mixture on the roads prior to snow storm (tommorrow) put it on the Northway (Rt 87) and also part of the Thruway in the Albany area early today. If it doesn't snow this still acts same as salt if wet. Put away last night.

I won't Ryde with the salt on the roads and certainly not with ice either.

That being said I only really put it away when there are parts removed for Farkleing, painting, maintenance and such. It never really has full mothballing in play. Ready to Ryde unless disassembled.

    Default Well

As some one who lives up North, in Northern California, I try not to ryde when I know it is going to RAIN! Now this weekend I am going to ryde in the ☔️ I will be heading down to Southern California for the So-Cal Ride for Kids and will have the opportunity to meet the New Senior VP in charge of all things "Spyder" at BRP. So it will be raining most of the 400 miles down there and back......but we will muddle through the puddles. should be interesting! Will report after the weekend! Other than that we ryde all year long!

I ride unless snow, ice or salt on the roads. Have ridden at 9 degrees on PGR mission. Normally 20 or so is about it. Fun to ride on New years day watching lead sled drivers about break their necks gawking. have had a few police stop over the last 30 years or so and ask, are you really here after we tell them about a 40 mile ride one way or more
