Default When shifting to 1st or reverse

When shifting to 1st or reverse the shifting shifts hard, not a smooth shift, is that normal?

If by hard, you mean that it makes a clunking noise, yes it is normal with the semi-auto transmission.

Yes, it's just the clutch 'opening' and nothing to be concerned about. Enjoy your ride.

BRP calls the clunk into first "positive engagement". While first always clunks on my SE6, reverse doesn't always. I haven't paid enough attention to see if there's a pattern, but lately, it's been slipping very smoothly into reverse most of the time.

    Default Klunk...!!

Typical and especially with big twins. In neutral the crank is spinning but the gear box is idle. When you joint the idle gearbox with the spinning crank you get a klunk. Same with reverse. Once you have engaged first the gearbox is spinning so all shifts after are more of a merge and smooth. Relax all is well down there..

Ahhh, so if I paid attention and found my "pattern", I'd find that when I'm in first and hit reverse, it's smooth, and when I'm in neutral and hit reverse, it clunks. Thanks, Chupaca!

my own experience is ......any shift out of neutral will clunk, rev or 1st.
shift from rev to 1st is butter, have never actually tried 1st to reverse. I almost always park it
in neutral so I don't have to step on brake to start, which involves getting aboard etc.

    Default Clunk is gone

"Positive engagement" I love it. The spin doctor at BRP that came up with that deserves a raise. Now that I think of it as "Positive engagement" the clunk is gone.

If I'm riding with you: please remember to subtract one of the "clunks"...

What I wonder about. Every motorcycle with a wet clutch that I have ever owned or driven has clunked going into gear from neutral. Some were worse than others but still they all clunked. Why would you expect the Spyder to be different?
