Stuck in Gear
Have your dealer check the reverse actuator switch. Mine had to be replaced. My SE6 would go into reverse and neutral only.

I thought ALL the SE went to N during as you crank? If not it needs to be addressed by dealer.

Can I assume that the shift lever did not fall off since you should have noticed that if you moved the linkage underneath? Get a 13mm open end wrench. There should be one in your tool kit. Put it on the flats on the back of the shift lever and see if you can shift it manually. If not, there is a problem inside the gearbox. If yes, likely something wrong with the HCM.

That is incorrect. It may not seem to be a big deal but certain misconceptions revolve around this. All SE models if started in gear will normally auto shift to neutral after the engine starts. Not before starting or during engine crank.

Billy,
They have to be running so that there's oil pressure; is that right?

That's correct. That is HCM oil pressure not engine oil pressure. The HCM has it's own oil pump. What is not clear, depending on what document you read. BRP says it will shift when it has enough oil pressure and in other manuals it says when it reaches idle speed. I would guess it is idle speed because the HCM does not have an oil pressure sensor.

Ok thx after the crank... But if was in gear during the crank wouldnt it lunge with the starter?? P-brake or not Is why i said during.

The starter doesn't spin anything hard enough, to get the clutch plates talking to each other...

To explain let's start with a manual clutch. The clutch plates are normally clamped by spring pressure and engaged. When the operator pulls back on the clutch handle. It moves a piston in the clutch that overcomes the spring pressure. Unclamping the clutch plates and disengages the clutch. On SE models it is exactly the opposite. Spring pressure normally keeps the clutch plates apart. On SE5 models a mechanical centrifugal unit starts to overcome spring pressure when the rpm increases. Starting at about 2,000 rpm. This clamps the clutch plates and engages the clutch. On SE6 models it's a little different. It still has a spring to keep the clutch plates apart but hydraulic pressure from the HCM. Controlled by the computer. Overcomes the spring pressure, clamping the clutch plates and engaging the clutch.
So to simplify it down.
Manual clutch is always engaged until the clutch handle is pulled.
SE clutch is always disengaged unless the engine is running.
