    Default RPM shift point

Recently did a multi day test ride on a "16 RT (less than 50 miles on it) . Dealer said recommended shift point was around 3500. Is that a break in shift point or an all around number. Thanks.

I shift at about 3000 rpm, typically. The 1330 engine has very nice low-end torque that works well at that rpm.

I wait until at least 4,000 before i shift and then the new RPMs are not below 3,000, makes for a great ride

    Default Don't know. ..!!

On the new hydraulic clutch if they have an rpm rating at fully engaged. Ideally you should shift at an rpm that when the next gear engages the rpm's do not drop below fully engaged , semi automatic engines. Manuals pretty much don't lug the engine. You will get more ranges to see where others are shifting...

try getting those RPMs up there Bob and you will see quite an improvement in power. IMO, you are shifting way too early, but that is just my opinion

I know that there's lots more power available: I just don't need it for about 98% of my riding ...

I'm shifting between 3.5k & 4k. Keeping it in the lower power band. I'm getting low 30's gas mileage just around town & driving to work. No highway miles yet but I'm sure gas mileage will go up then. I'm not getting it into 6th gear a lot.

Shift points depend on which engine you are driving. Your profile says 2013 STS--that's the 998 engine. It likes high rpm's. Shifting and running should be at 5000 - 5500 rpm. You will find your sweet spot.

The 1330 likes 3000 - 3500 rpm. I usually let the semi auto take over for the downshifts. They are on 99% of the time.

I note the reference to the 2016 RT test ride. That's a 1330, so the recommendations are right on.

You weren't very "low & slow" as we pulled into Springfield back in April. In fact, IIRC, the rest of us were thinking "what the is Bob doing?"

I'm in the gang that routinely shifts at about 3K; I can tell by sound when I'm there. If I have on my hooligan spirit I run it up as high as around 4K. My mileage goes down when the hooligan comes out but it's more fun.
