I just use a standard garmin that you would use in car. Used it for 10,000 + miles no problems and a lot more cost effective.

I believe that they've upgraded to a better model, but mine does what I need it to!

Zumo 595lm, non BRP........this was the dealers idea as he feels guilty charging the exorbitant BRP price for so little added value.

Garmin DriveLuxe™ 50LMTHD.

Works fine. No Bluetooth to Sena, but lifetime HD traffic, maps.
At 1/4 the price of a Motorcycle one, it's fine in the light, gloves etc.

A map of whatever area I am riding in. I won't get lost then. GPS units are horrible.

I use Google maps on my iPhone. I can hear directions thru my Bluetooth headset. I also have stored music and the Sirius/XM app. Everything I need is on my phone.

i have the TOMTOM mounted on my F3, but i use my S5 Samsung phone, which is bluetooth to my SCALA G9 head-set... i ride with the GOOGLE MAP app for guidance, listening tru the SCALA.
the TOMTOM stays on and is a good visual... the TOMTOM was bluetooth to my SCALA, but it interfered with the phone, so i de-activated it and i have found that the GOOGLE MAP is far better for what i need...

PS: TOMTOM was under $70, and the SCALA is around $250... so combined, it's $320, which is far cheaper that most BRP furnished GPS's....

I CARRY 2 ZIPLOK BAGS IN MY TANK-BAG... ALTHOUGH MY PHONE & TOMTOM ARE WATER RESISTANCE, I TAKE NO CHANCES AND AFFIX THE BAGS TO THEM AND ZIP THEM CLOSED WITH JUST THE POWER CORD STICKING OUT.... and should the bags tear, both units would go into the frunk, where i have a USB port, and my phone would still broadcast directions to me from there... TOMTOM would be turned OFF...

Strange.....I have NEVER got lost using my GPS. ......but those bloody paper maps keep blowing up in front of my visor

But using Google maps means you are reliant on having a phone signal, jkm. Don't you ever lose reception?

The Garmin 660 and 595 definitely are, bcer. You can get waterproof cases like the Otter for iPhones. The paper maps are not quite so water proof unless you keep them under plastic

I have an automotive TomTom XXL mounted with an X mount on my STS.
Also carry zip lock bags for covering the GPS in bad weather.
Works great.

I have a Garmin 590LM that I had previously used on another bike. When I got my Spyder I installed the bracket and it works just fine. It is water and vibration resistant. Much heavier than an older model Garmin that I used. I was already familiar with the Garmin format so worked out well. Hooked up to speakers so directions are easy to hear. I haven't braved the bluetooth set up yet. I have ridden in pretty heavy rain and unit continued to function. It is a bit difficult to see in bright light despite what they advertise. Only downside I have run into is anytime you touch the screen it shuts down the radio even when it is not giving you directions and as I said not that bright when you have bright sun to deal with. I really like it.

Majority of time I just use the Garmin 660 that came with bike. But I like to have back ups so the google maps on my iPhone & a spare TOMTOM unit if I think there will be a problem, not to mention a good map study & list of notes I make for my trips. The Garmin has provin itself handy for finding fuel stops but the phone is also handy when searching for unknown address too. Satellite view has come into use a time or two.
The TOMTOM I cquired before the spyder & tends to get loaned out to family, more than anything.
(Not to mention it does not mount well or has audio link, so it rides in frunk as a digital map.)

Like Ranman42, I have the 590LM that I bought for my Harley and added a mount for the Spyder. I like the TPMS sensors for the Harley and I like the Smartlink app. I seem to attract storms so I like having the ability to superimpose radar over my route. I like being able to shoot a contact address from my phone to the Garmin. I also like carrying my tunes on the Garmin. I do have a dedicated iPod in the trunk but the Garmin is much easier to read and control than the Spyder screen. I know you can buy a cheaper GPS, a FOBO, use a phone in a waterproof case and such but I like the one stop shop for everything and the simplicity of moving it between bikes.
