    Default rt' and water-read rain

have gotten caught in a little rain lately. nothin bad, just takes a long time cleanig.
so, here goes another stupid irvin question. if your bike is in a downpour or is just
setting in one and you have nothing to put it under, what happens to the water
that might get in your speaker holes or the ignition switch? is the switch sealed enough to resist this? everyone talks about the D.E.S.S. problem , but what about unintended water
getting into electrical parts. cant this cause some concern? hasnt hit me enough and hopefully never will, cause we probly never will do overnights or longer unless invited or excited.
thanks for you hard core riders and your input.

by the way, the rt does a great job of deflecting rain away from both rider at speed !! irv toms

    Default Not to worry...

they are set up for rain and there are drains and sealed covers and connectors to keep the water out. Submerged in water is a different story....

We drove over four hours in a driving rain coming back from Valdez one time. Wore Firstgear riding textiles. We both had riding boots with "waterproof" skins in them. At highway speed most of the water was deflected off--except for our non-waterproof leather gloves. They were absolutely soaked clear through. It was also a bit cold and miserable that day.

We pulled off at a roadside coffee shop, had a couple hot chocolates, sat by the pot belly stove, and just dried out the gloves as best as we could. Resumed the ride and at Girdwood--about 70 miles or so from home, the rain quit, and the sun came out.

Did not experience any electrical faults with either of the GS/RS that we were riding that day. Both were decked out like RT's--which were to come the next year.

I purchased two good sets of waterproof gloves after that incident. We had no choice about driving in the rain, had to be home for work the next morning.

I cleaned up our bikes in April. Now they have that nice Alaska Grunge look.

    Default WATER PUDDLES

As for the key, I have had to use a light oil on ours several times. It does rain here and ours has been wet both riding and washing.
I've ridden without the grills in the rain and never saw any water accumulate on the front speakers, even after I stopped .....but the rain didn't ..... they are angled enough to not gather water .......Mike

Damn akspyderman, I KNEW there was a good reason I liked your posts!!!!

On the gloves staying dry, aero stich's three fingered lobster covers in orange do a dynamite job of keeping the hands perfectly dry!! And they are so funky that they are KOOL
