    Default Purchase red Master Key?

For 2013 and older Spyders, one needs a CanAm Master key to program keys to the bike. Anyone have the part number or other source to order this master key. From what I have seen they are red and uncut on purpose.

Yes, they have red where the standard key is black, and there would never be a need to cut them for a particular bike. They are for programming only, I doubt the ECM would recognize them as an operational key if you did cut one.

I got mine from Gearhead.com. It is part #529036106 and they want about $25 for it: http://www.gearhead.com/oempartfinde...P//529036106/1

2014 and later needs a different key. 2013 and earlier keys are different.

Along with the red master key you need a regular black key that has been cut to match your original key.

    Thanks guys.

I have BUDS which is all that is really needed for 2014 and later for adding keys.

2013 and prior require a master key to allow programming. Just ordered one. I also understand 2013 and older require you to have at least 2 keys present and cut for programming, one of which must already be a working key.

JC, watch out... The service manual instructions are totally WRONG!

Took me some time to figure out how to use the red key....

    Hope this helps.

And how does one get ahold of BUDS?

Bob, your video collection was the first place I went when looking for information on this. I marked up a page from the service manual with your updates and some notes on what to really expect. THANKS.

I've been trying to locate a master key and instructions but the site recommended is closed. Do you have an idea where I can purchase the red master key and the correct instructions?

the site listed in post #10 works, I just went there and it is functioning. You might also pm JC,he started this thread and is still active on the forum. Maybe he has a new outlet for the red master key.

Part number is still correct but looking it up shows the part is no longer available. Perhaps keep an eye out for one to pop up on ebay. Mine is not for sale.

Thanks! Just checked the site directly according to post#10 and nothing is there that I can locate so far. Will keep searching.

    JC,
Sorry to bother you about this, but do you have a solid place to where I can purchase the master key from?

BRP shows the part is no longer available.

You will have to use a shop that has one or watch for one to become available in the used market like ebay or here on Spyderlovers.

So, what is it that you need to do...is it just to make a spare key?

Default 2012 Spyder Master Key Needed Desperately

I just came into possession of a 2012 Spyder RT Touring Bike & Trailer
The previous owner has passed and it has been sitting for 4 1/2 years unused.
The keys don t work because they're not recognized by the bike any longer.
I've replaced the battery but can't do anything more until I can get it to turn on.
Does anyone know where I can get a Master Key?
I've tried the links supplied earlier in this thread to ne avail.
Dealers in my area are reluctant to sell one, if one is even available.
I was even told by some dealers that they won't service a 2012 any longer.
I'd rather not have to load it up and carry it 50+ mile round trip to the nearest dealer.
Maybe someone has one they no longer need?

Without a working key, the master key would do you no good anyway. Cannot program keys without a working one. The bike will have to have the ignition and DESS modules replaced which come with new working keys. Have it towed to a dealer that is willing to do the work as it requires BUDS to complete the ignition system swap out.

Hey Dallas. What James said. In this case, despite what the name implies, the red master key is not LITERALLY a master key.

But, just to give you an additional set of eyes on here, what are your indications when you put in the key(s) and turn on the ignition? Are you actually getting the little key symbol lit on instrument display along with the display message that says "KEY ERR"? And does the key look like this?
