Milage --WOW

Have a 2104 RT-S and my mileage is great. The last fill up I had, I got 41.9 MPG. Yesterday went on a 234 mile trip and averaged 48.4 miles per gallon. That's 234 miles with total usage of 4.831 gallons. Had two bars left on the gage. This was done with two up and on back roads of Northeast Ohio and western PA.WHAT A BIKE.

In my opinion, anyone who gets better than 35 mpg rides like an old man!! I feel lucky if I get over 33!

how do you think we got to BE an "old man"? My mileage isn't great, I tracked it once a couple years ago, but I'm still here,
and I don't tick people off every where I go.

I never seem to get into the 40's. Stopped tracking it and just ride.

your ryding conditions must have been all lined up just right...I am still waiting for someone to come up to the advertised mpg..per tank... has anyone....Last I checked I got best 40 on my V-twin but only avg 33......

On my 22 mile ride to work last Saturday evening, I passed 3 Harleys!! That might be my problem.

Hey Jim, This is a bit off topic but everything I learned about psychology comes from Psychology Today(Just kidding) In an article from June 26, 2012 titled "Think Sarcasm is Funny? Think Again", Dr. Clifford N. Lazarus opined in the article the following about sarcasm:

"If you want to be happier and improve your relationships, cut out sarcasm since sarcasm is actually hostility disguised as humor. Despite smiling outwardly, most people who receive sarcastic comments feel put down and usually think the sarcastic person is a jerk. Indeed, it’s not surprising that the origin of the word sarcasm derives from the Greek word “sarkazein” which literally means “to tear or strip the flesh off.” Hence, it’s no wonder that sarcasm is often preceded by the word “cutting” and that it hurts.
What’s more, since actions strongly determine thoughts and feelings, when a person consistently acts sarcastically it usually only heightens his or her underlying hostility and insecurity. After all, when you come right down to it, sarcasm is a subtle form of bullying and most bullies are angry, insecure, cowards. Alternatively, when a person stops voicing negative comments, especially sarcastic and critical ones, he or she soon starts to feel happier and more self-confident. You sound like a nice guy so don't know what's up with wanting to revel in sarcasm? OK, back on topic and please no flames. Just thought this might be an interesting interlude to gas mileage reports

BTW, to stay on topic, my gas mileage on all of my trikes varies considerably because of the "loud handle" and secondarily from a bunch of other variables (wind, altitude, road conditions, etc.)

Unless interstate travel is involved I easily get 40+ when the bride's aboard. Why? She makes me leave the hooligan behavior at home.

I experienced the same effect on my Honda ST 1300. With momma on board, I could get over 50 mpg.

On my 2014 RTSE6 I almost always get into the low 40"s. Here In Oregon, I ride freeways, twisty mountain roads and in-town riding almost daily. My 2011 RT SE5 seldom got over 33 mpg. However, there may be some explanation for this other than an extra cylinder and gear. They say "Each Season has it's time". As a young stud, speed and time needed to go faster and faster. In my Forth Quarter of life, I find, at 74, that life IS going faster and faster, so I often find myself just "tooling" along o a great twisty Mt. road, enjoying the trees and vista"s in this most beautiful part of the US. Somehow this "tooling" seems go add miles to my gas tank. Make no mistake, I still love to power out of a sharp corner, or blow off some Harley "dude" at a light, I just don't HAVE TO! Today, it;s all about Riding in Comfort, and not measuring the size of my Ba..s.

I guess I resemble the "old man" comment. Just remember, I may be old, but I ain't dead yet.

Mileage: the 998 gets a consistent 31 mpg and the 1330 gets a consistent 39 - 41 depending on the "loud" handle. I check mine often because I am a numbers person. It don't matter though. I drive for fun and not for numbers.

on those high 40's. Never been there.

That may be true, but as long as you are getting "technical", Jim was being sardonic, not sarcastic. Many folks confuse the two. Sardonicism is much more common than actual sarcasm (which is actually intended to be mean). You can think of sardonicism as “good natured” or “light hearted” sarcasm. I agree that it's not nice to insult folks, but given the choice between political correctness, and good natured sarcasm, I'd honestly choose the latter every time. My father was a sardonic man (he would have called it "being sarcastic") and he was indeed also kind, good natured, funny, and well liked.

Jim, maybe you want to change your middle name to "Sardonic"

FWIW, I AM an old man, and riding my Spyder is probably the ONLY thing I don't do like one. I never get better than 28 mpg.
