Kind of an old thread, but I also plan on putting hand guards on my upcoming F3-S. Gonna install the same type I had on my FZ-09, that also used a 6mm thread style. Buy some Acerbis X-tarmac knock offs for $37 and head down to your local hardware store for: (2) longer 6mm SS 6mm bolts, (2) washers and a couple rubber washers to put between the guard arm and Spyber bar end. Total investment of about $40. They work great, have a carbon fiber look and removable wind deflector. Here's a couple pix from a past FZ09.
I put some handguards on my V-Strom, they were SUzuki OEM accessories so they fit like they were purpose-built (ha). As noted earlier, they are wonderful in cold weather, and they keep bugs and pebbles from smacking your knuckles in warm weather.
This was one of the few mods I had been considering doing. Was wondering why Can-Am would offer them for their other models like the Ryker, but not the F3. I'm betting they couldn't come up with a reliable mounting solution that wouldn't obscure the rearview mirrors. This thread may have saved me some time, money, & considerable trouble...
Mine should arrive today. I'll post some pix tonite.
** Got them on. $40 + $3.50 for some longer bolts/washers/rubber washers. I think they look good for the F3-S black. The clear plastic extensions interfere a bit with the mirrors. Take them off and almost a clear view. **

I went this route as well—How are they holding up?

Mine are holding up well. I did replace the OEM nut/bolt holding the guard to the arm. At highway speeds, the arm would slowly fold in with the OEM bolt/recessed nut. I went with a longer bolt, washer at each end and a nut (all stainless steel) to be able to tighten down. No more issues.
