    Default Harbor Freight Cycle Lift

Do those of you that have the Harbor Freight cycle lift that is now on sale for 69.99, feel that you use it enough to have bought it? I want to get one, but not if it is only going to be used once in a blue moon. Only thing that
I could think of using it for is changing brakes. Not sure since it is under the center of bike if you could change oil, or what ever. Just curious. Don't want to buy another piece of equipment to take up room in the garage, since
I had to get rid of stuff just to make room for the Spyder. If anyone has a picture of exactly where to jack up, it would be appreciated also.
    I have a 2010 RT.
    Thanks

Default You can never have enough tools....

I use that kind of lift for many jobs. Strangely not for oil changes. But even for cleaning it works well. I also do all my own work. Now if you only wash and do oil changes you may not use it that often but will miss it when you need it.

I have one and use it quite often, including for changing the oil. For oil changes, I lift it up a foot or so, then set the Spyder on jack stands and remove the lift. Getting the Spyder off the ground gives me more room to work when removing the drain plugs.

Default Here's my two cents worth -----

I sadly bought one of them thar du hickey's from Harbor Freight thinking I'd be doing stuff to my Spyder. I have ONLY used it ONE time- I say- ONE TIME! and that was to put RIDE ON in my tires.

Catch a good sale at Harbor Freight and if it does sit around you won't be sick to yer stomach like some of us. (SMILE)

I now have a 2015 RT Limited and when it cools down again outside, I might use that thar lift again to put RIDE ON into this Spyders tires.

That was and is my experience.

Good luck in your decision making!

I will say... a standard floor jack put in the right place on the frame.... WORKS WELL!
Finding the right balance spot with a standard floor jack does take a little time.
Once you know the balance point though, it's easy to find the next time.
But, put jack stands under the tires for SURE as unlike this ATV lift, the spyder will be very unstable!
With that said, no matter what I use, I use jack stands, ramps, blocks, etc.... for safety...

I have a Harbor freight lift that I initially bought to move my wife's Shadow around. Additionally, I have 2 other motorcycle lifts I use regularly.

The Harbor Freight lift is not as sturdy as a Pit-bull or one of the other "professional" jacks, but for the occasional lifting, working on the bike it is just fine. (I would never use any jack without stands or auxiliary support.)

Another great use for this jack is moving the bike around. Nothing better to quickly move it sideways a foot or two. (and yes, I use it on the Goldwing too ....)

    Just my 2 cents ......

I bought mine in 2008 and used it a lot with my Royal Stars for oil changes cleaning and maintenance/repair tire changing and storing/moving the bike. The built in lock works very well,we kept my friend's Harley Ultra on it for two years while he was away. With the Spyder I don't use it so much any more. Now I just run it up on some ramps and use a floor jack to lift the rear level and put a 3rd ramp under the rear wheel.

I have the Craftsman version of the same jack. I use it to pick up the lawn mower to make it easier to remove/install the blades. I even used it to lift an 80 gallon heat pump water heater up onto a 12" high base! I even use it to lift the Spyder once in awhile!

I just picked one up today at Harbor Freight, took it home, assembled it, and it won't go under the bike. It hits the lower plastic cover, on the side(the black one on the lower left side, below the one you take off to check the oil), and looks like it will hit the highway peg frame underneath. All bummed out. Why can't I get it under, and all of you do? With the lift all the way down, topside of rubber pads on lift to the ground is about 5.5"

Pump the rear shock up to full 60 to 90 psi. It'll slide under then.

Sometimes the lift doesn't go down all the way. If you stand on the forks and press the release pedal with a broom handle it will go down a bit more and you should be able to get under the Spyder. Also do what IdahoMtnSpyder suggested.

do you think since the highway peg frame is under there, in the way( although it seems to be even with the frame) any pressure on that lifting the bike will hurt anything? Looks like the bolts go through the engine block.
