Default Installed 2009 RS Gas Door

I am happy to say that with the help of BlueKnight911 / Mike I was able to get my Gas Door installed. Mike was so helpful and patient with my many questions and concerns. I created a album and uploaded only 12 pics, I probably took 50 pics but don't want to boar you all. Lol. The project can be done if you take it slow and have patience. Plus having cool day helped.

Just thought I would share. Good luck to anyone wanting to install one.

Thanks Mike, it was fun doing it with hubby and son. I was in charge of heating up the nail and knife. Reading instructions step by step, and supervising. It was not a hard project at all. Just a little nervous at first, but once you get into it the confidence level goes up. I couldn't see uploading 50 plus pics. So I hope I picked enough of the details.

    Thanks again,
    Sheila

Default Great looking gas cap modification but a question.

I like how your gas cap modification turned out. However, looking at the pictures I noticed your seat pad. Is it a gel pad? Does it help with comfort on longer rides? What is the cost and where can you get one? Thanks!

I purchased the gel pad at cycle gear, maybe around $20

I have to say I absolutely love my gas door mod. It does take me a few minutes more to fill up but is so worth it. I am just very careful when I put the nozzle in and fill up with gas. This way I dont get splash back. Trips have been very enjoyable with strapping duffle back on seat.

Thank you Mike...You saved my santity.

Sheila , before I switched to the large door for my RT ...... I used the small one like you have ...... with the PermaCap, I never experienced splash-back while filling !!! ..... I agree about being careful --- are you putting the nozzle in far enough ??? Mike ......................................PS thanks for posting the Pics on the Board

I have tried both ways on insertion get the nozzle. I just find that barely putting it in and slightly pressure works best. But not all nozzles are the same in Oklahoma. Some works better than others. Lol

When I went looking for a door I didn't see any ....... But if you want to .... go on E-bay , these will be listed for " crotch rockets " as " Gas Tank fuel door " or just " Fuel door " ...... Mike

    Default GREAT JOB

    Sheila!
I have to ask: can you get your hand the door and does the gas cap actually fit out through it? Looking at mine, it just seems it wouldn't fit.
    Thanks for sharing!

Actually if you timed it ..... it will now take less time ....why ??? because you don't have to un-lock and lift the seat ....and you don't take off ( and then put on ) the gas cap ..... JMHO .... Mike

I know this is an OLD thread , however once you put on the " PermaCap " you don't take it off.... the gas nozzle pushes thru the flap on the cap ....Mike

I can show you how to get a gas door in your seat for FREE
that not only looks better than the big old truck gas door shown here, and a bunch less work.
