Default quick question need some help...

guys sorry to ask this I dont have much time..

I just got this 2011 spyder RT and I rode all day yesterday and love it..

but went to check the oil today and there is none on the dipstick.

my dealers are closed until monday and I am riding it for the weekend.

I dont know what oil is in there.

should I add some mobil 4t 10w40 oil to it so that it will register on the dipstick. or should I drain all the oil and fill it back up with 4t 10w40 oil without changing the filter??

as soon as I can get a filter from my dealer I will be changing the oil again with the filters etc. I have 8000km on the machine total..

    thanks for any help

There are specific instructions for checking the oil in the owners manual.

You are supposed to check the oil while machine is hot. As in after a ride.

I don't have the manual handy at my desk--but someone will post the information.

I did run the machine until the temp gauge was at normal operating temp and when I pulled the dip stick out first there was some oil on it. but then I wiped it and put it back fully screwing it in. then it showed nothing on it again...

Well, first of all, you want to check it with the OIL at normal operating temperature, not the water. So, go ride it around for a couple of miles.

Oil requirements are as follows. Note the NOTICE. You'll only be adding a couple of ounces to bring it up to the full mark.

Use the XPS 4-STROKE BLEND OIL(SUMMER GRADE) (P/N 293 600 121) or a 5W40 semi-synthetic (minimum) or synthetic motorcycle oil meeting the requirements for API service SL,SJ, SH or SG classification. Always Check the API service label on the oil container.

NOTICE: To avoid damaging the clutch, do not use a motor oil meeting the API service SM or ILSAC GF-4classification. Clutch slippage will occur.

    Default oil level

Ryde it for a couple of miles and shut it off, take Tupperware off so you can check oil level, restart and let run for 30 seconds then check, be sure you are on a level surface. This is how you check oil on a 900 series

Not to panic. If the oil isn't hot enough to burn your fingers, then it isn't hot enough to give an accurate reading on the dip stick. With a dry sump oil system the oil pump isn't going to run dry and destroy your engine. Don't get me wrong. It's still not a good idea to run below the fill mark. But it isn't the end of the world like it could be with a wet sump system.

Mobil 1 4T has friction modifiers which are NOT GOOD for the clutch on the 998 Rotax (which you have). Probably not enough in the small amount (hopefully) that you will need to bring your oil level to the full mark. But not a good oil to use in you Spyder.

Hope you've figured it out by now. If you still need oil and Walmart is around, get anything they have..other than Mobil 1.
Does not have to be synthetic, and does not have to be 5-40!
In fact you will likely find only 10-40 which is fine.
