.....paint the tupperware/rubbermaid plastic panels on a Spyder? My 2010 RS is just a plain old black and gray. I love the newer colors and wonder if I can pull the panels and just paint them different colors? I've never had much luck painting plastic but wonder if it's been done successfully to a Spyder and what types of paint and prep are needed?

Yes; this is a project that has been undertaken by quite a few in here.
Since I have an RT; I notice the folks who color-match the rear fender to the rest of the bike.
It does require some specific protocols, so it's best to partner up with someone who know the business of painting plastic.
We expect to see pictures of the results!

The folks at Ford , GM, & Chrysler actually have more problems with paint than you ever will on the Spyder.....even if you don't use BRP paint......I have done some Dash surrounds with totally in-compatible paint ( ie. for Metal use )....with good success. It's all in knowing how and what to prep with.............Look at Deanna777's Cognac dash surround .....that's not BRP paint..................good luck....Mike

Tehe nice thing is being able to remove a panel and not worry about a bunch of taping and overspray.

Just use prep-all to make sure the paint takes and you don't get any fisheyes in the paint.

No Problem I went from silver to black on the whole bike, there are additives they put in the paint to allow for flex

I had thought about doing something similar to my 12 RS. It's all black from top to bottom and I had debated turning it into a midnight blue, maybe a little lighter shade and kind of making it two tone. That's a project for winter though, and when I have a garage. When I was looking into it, I had liked the idea of Plasti-dip just because I liked the ease of use and the fact that should you ever change your mind it's easy to remove.

I was hoping that those that had success with painting their bikes might mention the kind of paint they used. I understand the prep work but have never had any luck with paint sticking to plastic. What kind of paint have others used? I was thinking about having a custom color mixed out of a two part epoxy, or just a base/clear coat. How about a store bought spray can? There are some 'Plastic Spray Paint" out there, anyone used them with good results? If so which one's?
