Hey folks...sorry we haven't posted on here in a while. We've been keeping our blog and Facebook pages updated, but haven't had time to log on here to post. Anyway, we are taking a couple days off the road and laying over in Pittsburgh while some bad weather moves through. So, a little downtime and we can update you on the trip.
We were in Florida last time we posted. We were treated to breakfast by Bryant in Kingsland, GA. He is someone we met through the Spyder forum. We had an excellent meal at Steffan’s Restaurant and enjoyed visiting with him about the joys of Spyder ownership and RIDING!
After that we traveled north to Greensville, SC. Our plan was to ride Tail of the Dragon, go over to Gatlinburg, come down through the Smoky Mountains and then take the Blue Ridge Parkway all the way to Virginia. However, the forecast was for severe weather in the mountains and that just didn't sound like fun. So, we modified our route and headed to Alexandria, VA to hang out for a few days. While we were there it was time to get the tires changed...we got 10,000 miles on them and could have gotten another 1,000 or so, but since we were laid over anyway, this was a good time to change them out. Thanks to the crew at Coleman Power Sports in Woodbridge, VA. We were also able to cruise around DC on the Spyder...lots of fun seeing the monuments that way.
From Virginia, we headed east to Delaware, New Jersey, New York and into Connecticut. Some beautiful back road riding. Then taking in the New England states....not a lot of miles every day, it takes quite a bit longer to travel through that part of the country if you aren't on an interstate. Typically we were averaging about 30 mph. We worked our way over to Rhode Island, through Massachusetts into New Hampshire. Then we cruised up into Maine to pick up the eastern most point in the Lower 48 at Quoddy Head Lighthouse. From there...everything is West now!
We cruised through Acadia National Park...beautiful views from the top of Cadillac Mountain. Leaving Maine we had a cloudy, rainy, drizzly ride through New Hampshire into Vermont. Never was a down pour...just the drizzly stuff. At one point we were literally driving in the clouds. It was cold enough that day that there was a possibility of snow on Mount Washington. Kind of a bummer, we were hoping to drive that road too. No worries, just another opportunity for another trip!
Leaving Vermont we took the Fort Ticondaroga ferry over to New York....timing is everything, we had the entire ferry to ourselves on the ride over. We met lots of bikes headed east, many of them were leaving Americade and headed to Laconia. We stayed just ahead of the rain heading south to Scranton, PA. From there we stopped in Pottsville, PA to tour America's oldest brewery, Yuengling and then on to Quakertown, PA to do a little genealogy research where Chet's Dad grew up. Then it was on to Pittsburgh, PA to layover for a few days, do some laundry, avoid some rainy weather and get some much needed rest. Tomorrow we will be back on the road headed west to Dayton, OH.

Now I am faced with a dilemma. Should I work on next week's lesson plans for accounting or get on board my and spend the afternoon riding? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

Wow, we would love to make a trip like that, maybe in 15yrs. when we both retire!
