Gremlins in fuel gauge
Fuel gauge reads full after fillup and starting. then while riding, the gauge reads full, then empty with low fuel light.. then 5 min later, full again, then later, empty with low fuel light.
no consistency staying broken or ok.
Not hitting chuckholes/train tracks etc that might make fuel tank float(I'm ignorant..thinking of car gas tank) stick
any ideas?

Well....
sounds like a loose connection or a faulty sending unit. Did not see what model you are talking about but if it is the RT you can disconnect the temp and fuel gauge and get the digital read out on the screen. if it is an analog guage it could be the guage. If it is the digital guage more likely the sending unit.

it's a 2008 GS semiauto. Took to dealer, they replaced the instrument pod. gas gauge and turn signal work great now.

Glad to hear that it's been fixed...
There's nothing more entertaining, than peering into your fuel filler spout while using a cigarette lighter for illumination...

I need some entertainment. Don't have a lighter, but think that one of those candle lighter torchy thingees will work. Will let you know what I find.
