    Default Jury Duty

I had to report for jury duty this morning. It was a marijuana and drug paraphernalia possession case. One of the questions they asked the initial panel was if we or anyone we know had experience with drugs, rehab, etc. I was trying to figure out how to blow up my story about my ex-husband's alcohol and drug career to make it sound like it affected me more. But I didn't have to. They got a panel and sent the rest of us home. I'll get $10 for the 2 hours I was there.

    You have to be ready...
If they ask if there's anybody present, who can't judge the case, based solely on the facts presented; just say something like this:
"Sitting there, dressed in all of that Orange (Or whatever color they put them in); that guy looks guilty as Hell to me!
I did that once, and the Defense Guy almost swallowed his tie!
They couldn't get me out of there fast enough!

My brother had jury duty last yr for a simple petty theft case. When asked if he knew about the case, he told the attorney he didn't, but best way to make sure he didn't do it again is to fry the punk. Your excused....

My b-i-l was a deputy sheriff and a cousin was sheriff of a different county.

That got me excused a lot.

My Mom would be called for jury duty. She would go a buy a book of cross word puzzles to take with her. They would ask her what she did for a living. She was just our Mom or "Domestic Engineer". They would ask her
what my Dad did. He sold Life Insurance and that seemed to be the jury position killer. So, my Mom would work cross word puzzles every day for a week and didn't serve on any juries that I know of. Is America great or what?

I had a friend once who told them "I was the one charged once and I learned that innocent until proven guilty is BS. I learned it is all a game between the attorneys." They sent him right home.

Grand Jury was very interesting, and I felt as if we actually had a chance to take an active role in the process...

One guy got excused because he said he didn't trust police, no matter what the issue at hand.

When I was getting ready to go, I almost put on my Smith & Wesson shirt, thinking that being pro-gun might help get me out of it, but the case didn't have guns involved.

When I was 19, I was called up and got excused because I made the prosecutor look bad. He started out to ask me something and talked for a long time in a very complex sentence. When he finished I said I don't know how to answer the question because by the time he finished I forgot what he started out asking. The judge smirked and almost snorted. I got excused that day.

I was picked for jury duty once. Was hoping one of the lawyers would ask me a question or let me raise my hand.

The guy charged with possession with intent to distribute had the same last name and looked a lot like a guy I had in some of my A&P classes.

For some odd reason, there were a group who were out on good behavior going to A&P school. We called that group the crims. Don't lend them a tool, because you will never see it again.

I'm glad I was picked and feel justice was served. Once into the trial, I had no bias. The kid was bad.

Oh yeah, the trial took four days, we got $10 a day, but parking was $15. Go figure...

I've been called to petit jury 7 times over the years; last one would have been smack in the middle of Spyderfest! And grand jury once. In NJ you also get to ask questions during grand jury.

And the pay here is $5 per day. Parking is free but for my county I need to drive to downtown Paterson. Not a nice place to be even around the courthouse. You serve for one day or one trial.

    Default Jury

We were all ask would we vote to convict on a silly set of circumstances. When it got to me I said "I don't do stupid" and they picked me for the jury anyway. It was a 6 person just and we ended up a hung jury...3 for and 3 against....oh well....

You were lucky to get $10 in NV you have to be on the jury and report for a second day before you get anything.

IMHO it is a job we should take serious.......What if it was a trial about a serious SPYDER accident and because you were not there they person who caused the accident got off scott free. Or on the other hand someone who was wrongly accused of something and got sent away because they could not find an impartial jury....

Now let me get off my soapbox and get back to work..........

You should have asked if you get to sample the evidence to see if it was worth prosecution.

Thanks. I thought I was the only one that didn't mind jury duty. August 2011 was my last serving, and I was told I'd have to wait another 6 years.

I found it quite interesting the way some jurors come to their conclusions. In the jury I was on there were a number of charges that had to be decided. On the most serious charge, there were 2 of us who voted for a lesser charge, and it became 10 to 2. Very interesting why the other 10 wanted to convict for the more serious charge. When all was said and done, he was convicted on the lesser charge. I think there were 4 other charges that we pretty much agreed on from the start.

i was permanently excused years ago after my prostate surgery. i told the judge that i pee often since the surgery, and if they didn't mind me getting up when i had to go during the hearings, i would be happy to serve. they dismissed me. if you can get a letter from your doctor saying you have a problem, you can be dismissed
