    Lightbulb 2013 Spyder RT Limited rear tire

    I am having trouble finding a replacement rear tire for my 2013 RT Limited. Size in the book is 225/50/15. Is there anything out there besides the stock tire that will not break the bank? I have read about the General Altamax RT43 but all dealers cannot get in this size. Help almost bald!

    I currently am using a Kumho Ecsta AST, in the OEM size.
    About $85 bucks: on EBay.

    We recommend and install the Yokohama S-Drive 205/55-15. Its a great tire in the wet or dry and has great traction, and a very good lifespan on the Spyder. Its also exactly the same diameter as the stock tire. Currently the best option. The last 2 I installed used ZERO balance weights......IE they were a perfectly balanced tire when installed on the rim correctly.

    I hadn't thought about this sizing...

    Default Maxxis (225 50R15) OE size

    http://www.maxxis.com/catalog/tire-67-102-victra-ma-z4s

    I know someone on the forum has used this tire. Some feed back from those using this tire would help increase the knowledge Base on the forum. We all know BRP doesn't want us using car tires on our machines, heck they probably wouldn't want half the stuff we've put on our 's. Personalizing our bikes is how we make them our own trying different performance items is just another way to enhance the ride with out upsetting the Nanny.

    Default Not True!!

    [QUOTE=BLUEKNIGHT911;1134665]Your Dealer isn't going to sell you a NON-KENDA tire ....imho.....Mike

    In my experience this is not true. My dealer sold me the Kumho, and mounted it and told that they got permission from BRP to mount this tire and that it would not effect the warranty. It appears that BRP has (at least in this case with a very GOOD dealer) loosened up a bit. I got 13000 and 14000 on my first two Kenda rears. We will see how this lasts.

    Mike I have seen the scrubbing and trouble with mud flaps from the 215 60 size as well. Usually on bikes that are ridden two up.

    NO, my air ride failed and it did not touch, when I went to Spyderquest in 2014 my shock had no damping and nothing rubbed, scrubbed or whatever. 19,000 miles on my Michelin 215/60/15.

    It was the mud flap bolts scrubbing the tire. The 215 is larger in diameter and as it swings through its suspension arc, its closer to everything and on some heavily loaded bikes, even with the air bag fully inflated....the tire rubs. Its easier to recommend and install a tire that does not and work well than to have customer complaints. If you are happy with your 215/60 great, run them. I do not sell and install them because of problems. The one we do recommend has no such issues and is a better tire with higher grip. Also not everyone runs a heavy RT. Tire grip matters on the lighter bikes.

    I am planning to install a Toyo R888 on my F3 as a trial. Not recommending them yet and won't for the RTs but the F3 and RS are more traction limited.
