Default 2014 ST - Ltd - High Pitched Squeal When Turned Off???

Well I just got my "new" 2014 Satin Silver ST LTD. I just parked it in the garage and am reading up on various things. I got a great deal but had to have it shipped cross country, 3,000+ KM's. Even after paying the shipping still a great deal. Only 7000 KM and still has two full years of warranty.

    I
notice that when everything is shut off there is a very high pitched squeal coming from the bike. Sounds sort of electronic and is not loud but in the garage with nothing going on it is definitely audible and sounds like it is coming from in the motor area? Any ideas? Doesn't matter if key is in or out, on or off, if parking brake is on or off, if the frunk is open or closed or the seat is latched or not latched? Can't imagine this is correct as it would be something that would be draining the battery?

    Thanks.

Fear not. The squeal has to do with the electronics and usually lasts for about 15 minutes. At the moment, I am having a senior moment and cannot remember the exact cause.

Someone will come on and give the reason.

It's coming back--I think. The throttle body is being held open so that the engine will get a quick restart if you want to start the engine "hot." They will correct me if I am wrong.

    Default Here's the thing....

once you turn off you spyder you will notice that the dash has a delay and then you have the computers running and shutting down all systems. The sound is related to the shutting down of the throttle body and can last up to 45 min. Usually much less. congrats on the new ryde... and welcome...

From page 45 in the 2014 ST Owners manual...

"This vehicle is equipped with an Electronic Throttle Control (ETC).
Each time the ignition switch is turned OFF, the ETCmotor stays energized for 40 minutes.
The ETC motor will emit a high frequency sound during this period of time that can be heard in a quiet environment.
This is a normal characteristic of the vehicle."

I thought the squeal wastage tiny mice trying to catch their breath after spinning the motor for you.

My Wife's new '15 STL does it all the time. I think it a sustain & slow cut out on the electronics system, normal.

Its sort of a Hearing Test? If you can't hear it you should get a hearing test OR a least take a online hearing test to see How Deaf you really are?

    Default Mine too!

Just picked up a new 2015 STL (end of April) and noticed the same thing. Definitely seemed abnormal, but I guess BRP knows all about it. Thanks for posting the answer.
