2015 F3S MPG

Back before we were blessed with all this rain, I was out traveling the
back roads around here and mph was generally between 50 and 65. My
gas mileage came out to 40.1 mpg. I was happy camper.

Thinking I may have missed something in figuring how I got such good mileage
I made another check today. Back roads and all with speeds bouncing between
45, 55, 65 and an occasional dash to 70 mph. Gas mileage came out to 46.2 mpg.
That was 3.5 gals over a 162 mile route. Other than the new sway bar, I set front
tires to 18.5 lbs. and back to 27.5 lbs. I love this kind of mpg.

That is great mpg's I get giddy if I get 40 out of my RS but on average 33 is good. So enjoy yours...

Sorry but I don't believe it.........A lot of people her have posted their MPG's with the F-3 and your's is about 5 mpg's more than that average............But if you are ..........................Mike

It could be that you are not completely filling your tank. Your mileage sounds extremely high to me. I have over 4600 miles on my '15 F3-S and am averaging 36 to 38 mpg.

I do lots of short trips and at 1600 mi I average close to 30+- mpg. No vehicle makes good mpg in a stop & go environment. Also the speed is a major factor--60-65 mph versus 70-75mph may result in a 10%-15% variation, 40+ mpg seems high with a windscreen at highway speeds.
On the positive side--my F3's runs a lot better than it did in the early break-in period--my top speed so far has been 110 mph in 5th gear & I ran out of room to pursue top mph. But my F3's SE6 shifts better--runs quieter, & vibrates less.

Or else the rider's hearing & sensorary perception has diminished :-(

I too get very good MPG with my 2015 F3S. I run the 93 Ethenol Free gas and I average 41 plus miles per gal.

Actually I was surprised at the mpg myself. But I topped it off to the same spot each
time. Ran the figures thru my phone calculator and my computer calculator when I got
home. No change and so far I have put 66 miles on it and the gas gauge has not budged.
Heck I am happy with the 41 mpg. The best I ever got with my Goldwing trike was 38 mpg.
As they say "your mileage may vary".

Mileage is a tricky thing on these Spyders and I'm really happy you are getting such great returns.

There have been, in the past, some threads here that have indicated two Spyders travelling identical routes have had their odometer readings quite a bit different.
I think they were RTs.
I don't think anyone ever explained the differences (same tire size etc) but the differences were off by quite a bit.

If the odometer is a bit wonky then the mileage will be wonky.

If it were me, I wouldn't bother to check though, I'd just keep on rydin'

I never bought the spyder for MPG. I bought mine for "smiles per mile" and it does just great!

That's great mpg, my right hand won't let me get that much, about 30 to 35 most of the time. If I want mpg like work commute I jump in my mini that get 40 mpg most of the time. Road the wife's RT back from the dealer with a heavy hand 90 most of the time as she left first and I was trying to catch her and it got almost 20 mpg. I like the fun factor not the mpg. Can't put a price on happy, Jim

I have been doing an experiment for the past few months. Shifting "early" (having come from the old 998 engines, I was used to shifting at higher RPMs and it was hard to switch). Anyway, I started shifting to a higher gear at lower RPMs and leaving it there and I'm more likely to let it downshift on its own depending on the situation (sometimes you just have to downshift and drive in lower gears in traffic down out of the mountains). My gas mileage has jumped up and stayed that way.

If you're super curious -- go look at my stats on Fuelly (user name = vondalyn) and the vehicle is Pete. I've tracked 86 fuel ups and 15,079.8 miles. My average mpg over the last 10 fuel ups is 41.6 and my best mpg for a fuel up is 48.4. My overall average is 38.7 but I suspect if I keep driving like I have been for the past few months, that might eventually creep upwards.

Oh and I NEVER use eco-mode.

In my first post, I hesitated to give directions for doing the calculation. The OP mentioned filling to the same level each time. That is the important part to be able to compare apples to apples.

Because of all the variables, and if you are using gas from different stations, you can come up with interesting numbers.

Since I have the accountant genes, I check the mileage each and every time. It will vary a bit because of variables, but the pattern over time shows a consistent 30-31 on the 998's and 39-40 on my 1330. That's over 130,000 miles.

I have had a few "better" and a few "worse." I also don't go out to five decimal points. That implies more accuracy than is warranted. A simple 34.6 would become 35 and 32.1 would be 32. What are you going to do with the .3 anyway?

A fun subject to consider from time to time. And we do.

Being in aviation all my life I'm kind of a fuel management guy. We ride two up 90% of the time and are getting 35-36 mpg with the 1330. And 39-40 mpg without the wife. Will be pulling the trailer on some longer trips next month, and see what she gets.

I really don't care what the mileage is, put nice to know how far you can go between fuel stops.

With an almost 20mpg spread for the same 1330cc engine even with ALL the "explained differences - all things being equal", BRP should be hearing from every auto and cycle manufacturer on earth as to how they could achieve such a MPG spread with one engine design! Go Spyder riders...

All I know is I get about 30 MPG on the 2012 RT sm5 and about 35-37 on the F3 sm6 in the same riding pattern!
I LOVE both machines for what they are???

I can get 50+ mpg on our 2014 RTS SE6, but most people can't because it would mean using Cruise Control in 5th gear while cruising 2 lanes at 50 mph. Unheard of! Oh Well, to each his own.
