    Default System too rich

    I recently purchased a 2012 Spyder RT.

The manual says 'Use premium unleaded fuel for optimum engine performance' so thinking I was doing a good thing, I filled up with premium.

Now I have a 'Check engine' alert and have fault codes P0175 (System too rich Bank 1) and P0172 (System too rich Bank 2).

What is my best course of action?

Something else is causing this ..................No way in H*ll it's Premium Gas.......I'm not sure even AV-Gas would do it and that's about 115 Octane ..............jmho.....Mike

and with Mike: this isn't a fuel issue.
How many miles are on the bike? My guess, is that you might need new plugs and wires, but it's just a guess...

I also agree with both replies. You SHOULD be using premium fuel, as the engine will run better on that - that's not the problem. As Bob said, it might well be the plugs need replaced, and for the little bit of extra money I'd replace the spark plug wires as well. If that's not it, your nearest dealer can run a BUDS computer check on the bike which will likely identify the real problem.

Could be a bad purge valve or vacuum hoses.

    Default All of the above...

but you might check the o2 sensor itself and the connections. Check the vaccum lines to the throttle body and the intake manifold for cracks causing air leaks. If not your cup of tea, have the dealer check it out for you. If the codes clear and the check engine light goes out ryde on till it appears again cause there could have been a hic-up...

Could even be the computer adjusting to the new octane. But I would say this possibility would be down the list a ways. A vacuum leak is going to make you run lean, not rich. You might try some Sea Foam or similar cleaning additive. Can't hurt.

Thanks to all for your input. I'll take in it to the dealer next week. I, too, looked online and found sooo many problems that could be the trigger. I'll get them to check it out on BUDS and see if we can narrow down the problem.

    Happy riding this weekend

Yup! If that's clogged: it certainly won't be taking in enough air, for the fuel that's getting dumped into the mix...

Found the problem. Had to replace the fuel line hoses and clamps. Too much air getting in the line. All good now.

Wow! How was the air getting into the fuel lines without leaking fuel? Negative pressure? And why would air in the lines create a rich condition? Unless the sensors were reading it wrong.

Glad you got it fixed. Just a very strange situation there.

I was thinking the same thing: too much air, should only lean-out the mix...
