Default 2013 ST Shock choices .... no Fox

Well after about a year and about 3500 miles with my Fox shocks on the front end one of them developed a leak.

Fox tells me they don't warranty their shocks but I can send in the shock and they can see "if" they can fix it ...for $150

So looking for what else is available before spending another $400 on Fox shocks because they wont sell me "one" replacement either.

Looked at the Elkas and wonder if anyone has or recommends these? http://www.elkasuspension.com/produc...-rs-s-st-2013/

YOu might want to talk with the Elka folks first. I'm not sure if they suggest periodic rebuilding of their shocks or not.
    But Fox does.

I had Elka's installed at spyderfest. Its like night and day difference. no compairison. I still have my Fox shocks if you are interested but if I were you, I wouldn't bother. Just call Elka, but talk to them first. They build the shock for your individual need. I have stage one shocks but its the spring they pick out for you and how they adjust it before they ship it out.

Everyone talks about The Baja Ron Sway bar but going to the Elka shocks is the best performance mod you can do to your Spyder.

    Not sure what you're saying.

Fox rebuilds them, but only being a year to year and a half old w/ low miles...no reason for a leak.

    Thanks.

Only thing I see on the Elka site for an ST is a Stage 2 or a Stage 5. I understand they build them close to your weight and style of riding. I use to have shocks built for my ATVs the same way.

Ill have to call to see specifically what they have if different than their website.

    Default Little checking..

There are the Elkas, the Race Tech's, Progressive and the oem's....I did have the oem's with the BajaRon swaybar & links and the Pit bull relocators and the spyder handled great. I recently found some affordable Fox podiums and things got even better. From what you say I will keep an eye on them though they have been great for 5,000 or so miles....

read the fine print carefully on the elkas; they recommend rebuild at what seems to be a ridiculously low mileage/time. Perhaps understandable if your running on a track; doesn't seem practical for the road use. Elkas were all the rage here 2 years ago; then people started reporting problems and failures and don't seem to hear nearly as much about them now.

So do I, That was one of the first mods I got when I got my ST limited. It was a great improvement, but I am heavy and was bottoming out a lot. No more of that and the handling is also much better.

Yeah I really liked them, too bad they don't back them up with a failure so soon.

Thanks, I'll look into it. I don't put many miles on mine between just running around town and having other toys.

I have had my Elkas since 2012 although I have low mileage 20000k, ( do to health,Renos and work getting in the way of riding)have not had any leakage yet, and man what a difference in ride compared to the stock shocks.

I can't find anything on the Elka site about service intervals or recommendations.

    Default Elka's

I had Elkas installed at Spyderfest on my 2013 STS
Made a significant difference in the ride and handling.
For me the springs are the best feature. They are preloaded for my weight.
Damping improved the highway high speed handling.
Overall my confidence in riding improved with the Elkas.
Yes I have a Baja Ron sway bar and laser alignment too.
    Cheers, David C

Whatever you end up putting on the front of your Spyder, I agree with Fox that you don't want a brand new shock on one side and a 1.5 year old shock on the other. It is important that the shocks have equal function. No way to get that with 1 new and 1 used.

Still, it's not the years, it's the mileage (where have I head that before?).

    Oh! Now I remember!

    Default 💋💋 my Elkas!

I had Elka shocks put on, as well as the sway bar, and I put on wider tires at the same time. Not sure where the difference is, but way smoother and I have a lot more stability when riding a little more aggressively, but not too much( don't tell my hubbie")

I knew I'd seen a post on the forum about this; take a look @ this:
    http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/s...8-ELKA-problem

And your correct; they tell you NOTHING about required maintenance on their web site!!!

John came back and told us the rebuild interval is for race shocks, not the street use shocks on the Spyders. They also stood behind the shock that failed.
