    Default Noob about to buy

I'm looking at buying a new 2016 RT. This will be my first Spyder. Can anyone tell me the difference between RT and RT-S? Also the dealer doesn't have a limited model. Which as I understand is just more chrome and the GPS. Chrome is no big deal (I prefer matte black). But I do want a GPS. If I buy a spyder without a GPS can you add one after market?

Anything else I need to be on the lookout for?

    Thanks,
    Joe

RT is the basic model. Available with a manual transmission, no radio either. RT-S has a few more fake chrome pieces, radio, extra gauges (fuel & temp), and driving lights.

Currently Owned: 2019 F3 Limited, 2020 F3 Limited: SOLD BOTH LIMITEDS in October of 2023.

    Previously : 2008 GS-SM5 (silver), 2009 RS-SE5 (red), 2010 RT-S Premier Editon #474 (black) 2011 RT A&C SE5 (magnesium) 2014 RTS-SE6 (yellow)

MY FINAL TALLY: 7 Spyders, 15 years, 205,500 miles

IT HAS BEEN A LONG, WONDERFUL, AND FUN RIDE.

I'm also curious if you ever had problems with people messing with your spyder when you park it out in public. It's such a unique ride I worry that people will be out there sitting on it or something when I'm inside eating or such. lol.

Anyone ever have a problem like that?

I usually park where I can keep an eye on it. Have not had issues with adults messing with the yet. Caught a little kid on my while the parent was watching and allowing. They are out there, so be careful about that.

I have had the occasional person sit on my Spyder but never had anyone try to steal it. If you want the GPS try to negotiate that as part of the deal on an RTS. Have the dealer install it for you.

The RTS is the fastest model, as everyone knows that chrome slows you down, especially plastic painted to look like chrome.

    Ann,
The Limited might not be the fastest model; it's just the coolest model!
Keeping folks off your Spyder is pretty easy. Get yourself a seat cover from the Spyder sisters on E-bay. For about 30 bucks; they cover up the seating area, and will discourage the curious!

Default RT VS. RT - S

$ $ $ $ $........I bought the RT basic model and have done 65 or so " things " to it and spent about $500.00 Total ( $250.00 for black wheels ) if you can DIY you will have a far better Spyder than 99% of anyone else's. If not it's going to cost you.......jmho......Mike

Congrats! Just keep and eye on the bike and you should be cool. I have had lots of lookers, but nobody has touched my Cocaine without asking me first. You can also just use your phone for the GPS.

I have the 14 RT Limited and it is worth the extra $. I haven't had to spend more than 500.00 to customize it.

How do you mount your phone so you can see it while riding? For the gps.

Get JT's accessory bar, RAM mounts and x-grip to hold your phone. http://spyderstore.com/index.php?rou...&product_id=51

You can get a tank bag the has two pockets the top one is clear so you can see your phone and it is protected from the rain. Otherwise they make holders that fit on your handlebars to hold the phone up higher.
