so brp called last night... sending new main harness now shop wont get it till Friday so another week and weekend without bike.. I have to laugh tech manager told me maybe it was my led lights causing the problem.... right on a separate circuit not spliced into any harness of the bike totally separate wiring no switches on bike controlled by keyfob and was the first thing disconnected he then said maybe it was the battery tender hook up seriously.. If a battery tender connected directly to the battery can cause this you have more issues than a battery tender.. also then why was everything just fine for almost 2 years with no issues... anyway new harness will be here Friday.. asked what happens if this doesn't fix it,,, as i have been told 5 times this should fix the problem.. he said would have to likely replace bike... also explained to him that the only thing plugged into the main harness is the can am cb unit...

    the saga continues

AH THE TECHS ARE FINE.. SO BRP SENT A NEW MAIN HARNESS TO THE SHOP AND THEIR TECH TEAM LEADER CALLED ME.. SHOP EXPRESSED CONCERNS ABOUT INSTALLING HARNESS TIME WISE AS SHOP IS BUSY WHICH I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND TO WHEN BRP CALLED I TOLD THEM ABOUT BARBWIRED INCIDENT SOUNDS THE SAME AS MINE PARTS AND ALL.. SO TOLD THEM WHY DONT THEY CALL THE DEALER THAT DID HIS BIKE GET THE VIN LOOK UP TO SEE IF THEY DIAGNOSED HIS OLD HARNESS TO SEE WHAT PIN OR PINS WERE BAD AND IF THEY DID DEALER COULD JUST REPIN THE BAD ONES AND POSSIBLY FIX WITHOUT INSTALLING HARNESS IF THAT WOULD FIX IT... SO THEY ARE GOING TO DO THAT AND IF THEY HAVE TO REPLACE HARNESS

THEY ARE GOING TO SEND SOMEONE FROM BRP FULLY TOOLED TO GO TO THE DEALERSHIP AND DO THE INSTALL , AND IF THAT DOESNT WORK LOOKS LIKE THEY WILL BE SWAPPING ALL THE PLASTIC AND ACCESSORIES TO A NEW BIKE AS THEY ARE BAFFLED.... THE ONLY THING THAT WONT BE ABLE TO BE TRANSFERED THEY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO DO THE ALIGNMENT AND I WILL HAVE TO REINSTALL MY LED'S OH WELL NEEEDED A WINTER PROJECT

    Default purge valve

my 2013rts was acting a lot like yours.i saw on this form that it could be the purge valve.i asked the dealer to check the valve,it was stuck open.he installed a new valve,20,000 miles later and still runs like new.

it is frustrating as no one at dealership or the tech gurus at brp can figure out the problem so Friday they overnighted new coils, plugs and wires and a new wiring harness to the dealer

dealer was instructed to install new plugs wires and coil packs now we had already replaced the same things on one cyln in the second week , told the team leader and customer service manager don't think that will fix the problem alas yesterday afternoon they were installed and no change.

so to finish out their day yesterday the dealer started the process to replace the wiring harness and team leader at brp told me will have an answer from that process by 1pm today.. I hope this is the issue as I have had the discussion with brp about replacing the unit at lemon law in ct is 30 days in shop for same problem as stated going on 6 weeks now.

don't really want to replace the unit with all the custom paint and accessories as if they replaced the unit would have to switch all plastic and accessories cb, chrome etc..

so hoping that there is an electrical issue in the harness as engine is sound with no issues

so here is what has been done

    4 spark plugs
    4 wires
    4 coil packs
    fuel pump
    main computer
computer resets, hystest valve checks, clyn compression test elec system tests and prob even a colonoscopy

the brp folks have been nice and understanding but if this latest stuff doesn't work I believe more drastic measures are going to have to proceed
the good thing is I have direct contact numbers and emails for actual humans that have some decision making authority
Not sure if this is your problem, but a lady that was at a recent rally was going through a one cylinder misfiring and after much parts replacements and reflashing they finally found that the injector wiring harness had shorted out on one of the cylinders. Might suggest that they check them. Especially since you were smelling gaas. Good Luck!

OK so can am sent their product specialist down to the dealer from Canada. He spent about 8 hours checking every wire in the harness. All OK he then rechecked all the engine and computer functions. Compression fuel all good. Should run. Today around one PM got the call from my brp contact in Wisconsin. Needs a new engine. Went to dealer. Eric brp tech took a horoscope thru the intake to the second cylinder. It looked like an explosion of metal. Something a valve seal or something let go. Believe it or not due to a previous mixup with ae f3. And no one returning an engine that was sent to the dealer a little while ago. The engine is on stock and will be installed next week...... Brp is shipping my engine back as they need to know what failed and the engine builders in Austria are. Curious Also. It was a long journey but at last they found the problem. Thanks to my dealer Columbia Motorsports. Eileen at brp for talking to me and keeping me informed and speaking to me almost every day since the case got elevated to her level. Joseph a team leader for the techs. And the last one to get involved Eric he is the Spyder guru product specialist. It Eve had him perplexed. The one thing he did say is that when he gets involved. He rechecks everything that the techs at the dealership does and the reports they send to brp. As he said some get lazy happy to say that was NOT the case here. Glad to hear that as the owner is a personal friend . so hopefully will be back riding next weekend

on the fact that they found the problem, although I'm sorry that you've had to endure so much...
Why not ask if they'll throw in an extended warranty on your bike, as a gesture of good faith?

Wonder if a simple compression check would have identified the bad cylinder? We do that on cages all the time. Might just ask if they had done that and if not, maybe they should add that into their diagnostic flow chart. In reality it only comes down to three areas: mechanical, electrical, fuel. Sounds like they concentrated on just the fuel and electrical and left out testing the mechanical. If BRP is smart they will learn from this mistake. I bet it cost them many thousands of dollars in labor and unnecessary parts.

And the sad thing is: they had the plugs out, they could have run a compression check and/or a borescope then. Harbour Freight sells borescope cameras for under $100.

Glad they found it and congrats on all the new parts, even an engine!!

Hum, with it that damaged you would have thought the compression would have been lower in that cylinder. And with good compression I would not have bore scoped it either. Certainly food for future thought and I hope this was a fluke. The 1330 triple is an awesome engine and other than a water pump failure it seems to be almost bulletproof.
