Ya Fyi just before Easter I was backing into my parking spot & heard a faint scrape sound, (not level ground, but not much incline, just enough to drain rain water) I investigate & find the bottom plate on LH side has come loose? I do not see how to get back in place Know my dealer will fix on my way to spyderfest , still covered with warranty But still wanna know. Also fyi no crazy riding just crappy Louisiana pothole roads, few RR crossings but all at slow speeds
thx in advance

Should have a torx bolt in the very front and two up under the center panel and the rear panel. the bottom has a tab that fits under the sub frame. Looks like you popped the tab out from under... now that is for the deflector. the bottom panel has a torx bolt in the middle a tab and two 10mm bolts to the main frame....

Guess ill have to get some higher ramps to get a better look. But sounds simple enough. Id rather not take off (just a personal thing )if it is a skid plate they serve their purpose even on the minor things. Glad i spotted & know to be cautious especially in reverse. I may just make early trip to my dealer, nice bbq down the road from them & can get my pre spyderfest readyness service eval instead of last min. Like last year. Thanks again

Looks like someone may have left out a screw the last time the oil was changed. Im with you though. I dont like the idea of it not being there. Once it is on, it keeps for a sturdier box. Leave one part off and it is much weaker and rattles other things loose.

I see your point but those two panels are much too thin to add anything structurally. They are primarily there for noise abatement. After an incident similar to the OP the left side one on my bike actually cracked in half. I haven't bothered to replace it and when I changed my coolant I removed the one on the right.

As long as the panel is not cracked. once it is in place, it adds a huge amount of strength. That is the principle that make L angle so strong. also a fence is much stronger at the corners because you have the strength coming from 2 directions. I tried leaving it off once when I installed my hyway pegs and could tell right away the bottom edge of the Tupperware was going to flop around too much so I put it back on.

Anyone who has ever put together one of those storage sheds in a box will quickly find out that the side walls by themselves will not stand up by themselves, but once the adjoining walls are attached it gets much stronger, and once it is a complete box, It is so strong it can withstand some pretty nasty storms as long as it is anchored down. The Spyder is the same. it is built with some pretty flimsy plastic pieces but once they are all connected it can take you down the road at a pretty high speed.

I think that panel can and should be modified to give better air flow and access to the oil plugs without compromising the structural integrity of the lower Tupperware pieces.

It adds no strength what so ever and serves no real purpose! It is just in the way changing oil. Mine has been off for 18000 miles or so and it will stay off until I trade it for a new F3 Limited. I would not waste any time or money on it.

While you are at it pull off the bottom right panel also. I took off both panels soon after I bought my '13 ST-S. By doing that it helped dissipate the heat from the engine and made oil changes easier, too.

The very first thing I did was to pull both of those panels off and toss them in the trash. All they do is collect crap, make it more difficult to change the oil, and make it difficult to do routine spot checks for potential problems.
It's easy enough to replace; just call the dealer to make sure that they've got one ready for you!
And remember it's all small stuff!
